Modify the database for a new archive interval

There is a guide in the weewx wiki on how to consolidate the data in the database for a new (higher) interval:

Will this also work the other way around, from 5 to 1 or from 2 to 1 minute?

Or could i use a simpler code that just fills the new, empty minutes in between with duplicate data of the minutes around it? To not have any abrupt gaps in between.

Is it somehow possible to go the other way with some database commands or are there any database tools for it? Does really everyone just go with a new database when changing the interval? I mean, wouldn't it be more neat to have the whole data in one place instead of multiple ones since interval change? So visitors of the html pages won't have to go through multiple "instances" to find data a few years back?

You can change to a different archive interval in a weewx database. It can handle different intervals inside the same database.

What you cannot do is change the unit system.

So I can set the archive interval from 300 to 60 and it will continue with the new, shorter interval and use the same database?
