Hi,
I read on the support forum several posts on how to use the Interceptor driver to support Ventus W830. The posts were about a year old, so before I dive into setting it up, i figured I could always ask if anyone knows if native support is planned for the Ventus W830.

Ultimate plan is to get my weather data into Home Assistant, and so far it looks as WeeWx and mqtt is the way to go now that the Weather Underground API is changed.

Of course weewx is the way to go because that way you are not dependent on a cloud provider. But for brevity: it is still possible to use Weather Underground. There is a free API available for owners of a weather station. I use this to get my weather station data into Home Assistant. There is a custom component supporting this new API. Personally, I use a simple REST sensor.

Hi Martin,

If this model is a FineOffset clone with a wifi connected console, as it looks like, you need to set up interceptor to receive the packages what the console would send to one of the providers (ie.: WU).

I don't know that this console can be programmed for specific address like the ObserverIPs, but if not then you need to define a rule in your router to reroute the traffic to your weewx. There are plenty descriptions of this, how to do it with some router firmwares.

I personally have a Eurochron Efws2900, and a Raspberry Pi. The Pi creates an AP where the console connects, and routes the data to WU. The Weewx runs with interceptor set to sniffer mode.

The rest of it is a different story and the previous commenter can help you with that.

I hope it helps!

Thanks Roelof,
Yes I'd prefer to be intependet of WU cloud. I set up the custom component for the new WU API in HA last night, and got it to work quite smoothly. I now have all sensors I need in HA and can progress my awning automation project. I would like more frequent updates than the 5min as default in the custom component though, but maybe that can be changed. I have to look into that at some point...

Hi Gábor,
Thanks for you response. Yes, I read into the interceptor method and it sounded quite tedious so I figuered it was worth a question on the forum. The console can be programmed for upload to WU, Ecowitt, Weathercloud and WOW. Besides theese there is a customized option as well, which might provide a way around re-routing. For now I think I'll go with the HA custom component method and wait for official HA support of the new WU API. I'd still want to try out weewx, so I put that in the backlog for this fall

Hi Martin,

I managed to get my Weather Station data from Weewx into HA using a json template in weewx and a REST sensor in HA. Here is a link to a post comment on how I went about it: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/weather-station-data/58489/12?u=jardiamj

If you want something independent of WU, I also think that Weewx is the way to go. Try it out!

Jardi.

Jardi,
Thanks for the tip. I've been running WU API calls from Home assistants custom component for a few days now. Today it stopped working and after a few hours of frustration I found out that I have reached my max No of calls per day. I read somewhere it is in the order of 500/day, but I got blocked after som 600-700. I had changed the update rate from the default 5min to 1min since I want reasonably fast updates in order to react on wind gusts for my awning automation. Now I need to change back to 5min :(. It feels like a an unnecessary step to go over WU service, when I have all data in my network. I will look into your post and try to get that working. The other option would be to set up my own server and publish data on MQTT, but being a HW guy my programming skills is limited, so it migt take too much time for me. I'll likely go the weewx way. Thanks again...

Martin
