Hello

I'm getting some very strange maximum wind speed readings, using WeeWX 2.5.1 running on Ubuntu 12.04 64 Bit LTS.
The weather station is a Fine Offset clone, WH1080.

I have had the system running before - but using the Python .py installer - this time Weewx is installed using the Deb installer, but I can't think that in itself would cause an abnormal High Wind reading?

The reason for the change is a new OS install, this time thinking the Debian installer would be (slightly) easier.

It seems that every read is reporting a High Wind speed in excess of 100 knots, often with a bizarre direction such as 4000 degrees.
The highest so far was +700 knots :-)

I've looked at the raw output from the Fine Offset station, using wee_config_fousb
I've also checked, and double-checked, the config file. Not modified the settings as per the manual (left in US)
Gone as far as removing the databases (after stopping Weewx), checked as much as I can.
I have also removed all the records in the console - using wee_config_fosub - and can confirm my Fine Offset clone obeyed the command.

Any pointers very much appreciated - what should I be looking for?
I think I'm in the right area when thinking its somehow converting a figure - incorrectly - but not sure where to look.

Happy to provide config, logs, etc - let me know which ones!

Thanks for any help,

Regards,

Ashley

try running weewx directly:

sudo weewxd /etc/weewx/weewx.conf

while that is running in one shell, monitor the log file in another shell:

tail -f /var/log/syslog

in the first shell you will see the LOOP data coming in from the station.  check the wind values there.

Hi, thanks very much for replying. Sorry I've not got back sooner.
It was the WH1080 which had some bad data in its memory, having cleared it completely (and replaced the ageing batteries!) all seems good again after stopping Weewx, deleting the databases, and starting Weewx again.

The historical data, at this stage, doesn't matter too much - I tend to be more interested in short-term weekly data.

I think I'm ready to purchase a better weather station anyway, preferably something which uses WiFi or ethernet, IP-based, which I've seen settings for in the weewx.conf so will start to investigate what's available, compatible and not too bank-breaking :-)

Thanks again,

Ashley
