Vince has hinted to a member that rsync is the way to go  since his
ftp-ing is goofy and perhaps it is time to let that older less efficient
method go by the way.

WeeWx has the FTP section and the RSYNC section to configure.

I had used GoDaddy for years and while I have no strong allegiance, I
still don't want to take on the trouble of leaving one service and
setting up on another.  I was a bit surprised when doing some article
research on it that all the authors said rsync is not native to GoDaddy
(and one even said they won't) but it can be set up by we the user if we
want to and some short line by line methods were described.

My anxiety about creating more trouble than I need by fiddling around
would raise the question about, If GoDaddy isn't offering what seems to
be a desirable option (as they do offer ftp), what is at risk on their
systems (which I think run Linux from what I can understand) if I tried
the method to set up rsync?  It just seems odd somehow that they'd not
be supportive of the programming and user community.

Could I plow ahead, follow the general instructions for setting it up,
use WeeWx rsync to transfer maybe one of the generated station's stuff
to GoDaddy while leaving ftp intact and then if they pull the plug on
users mucking with their systems still have the ftp sites available?

I'm not a native Linux person and yet find the things that WeeWx
instructions on setup and all very solid and would like to try it.

Nothing stops you from experimenting and there is zero risk to you in doing so.  It will work or it won't.  (hint - it will work).

Just follow the wiki article.

Not knowing how server companies work, I was unsure that they'd say I
goofed  up my access, files, or something and loose what I have there.

I'll experiment over the next couple days.  Thanks.  Dale
