Best Way to Upgrade Raspbian and WeeWx without Breaking it?

I tried to upgrade Debian to version 10 and WeeWx to 3.9.2. I am
using RaspAP as a hotspot for my little GW100 station. It has been
humming along for about a year and a half. I have never upgraded any
software on it, but it looks lie RaspAP is no longer supported on
Debian 9. Does anyone have any pointers about upgrading a setup like
this in order not to break my working setup? I just reverted back to
my backup so that my wx station is back online.

Here is my "UN-scientific" and not proven advice (follow with care);

1) Backup SD card - as it seems you already done, or just get a brand new SD card (to be extra safe and troublesome)

2) Copy Weewx directories/folders, to PC or other - formerly Weewx directories (may vary):

- /etc/weewx

- /usr/share/weewx

- /var/lib/weewx

3) Upgrade card, and copy Weewx directories/folders back on.

If all goes well, it should work.
