Would someone kindly take a glance at my weatherstation WIND DIRECTION graph, and tell me if it appears normal?  To me, it looks rather disjointed.  I wonder whether there is trouble in the vane or in the direction/speed Sensor Transmitter.

Wind today is gentle, generally out of the southeast, averaging under 5 mph.  Rain and wind is forecast later this afternoon.

The system is a Davis Vantage Pro2, monitored by weewx 5.1.0.

With a Vantage Pro 2 weather station, the archive value of the wind direction is the dominant direction observed during  the whole archive interval. Values  are  only N, NNE, NE, ENE, E , ESE, SE, SSE, S, SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, NNW

Looking at your plots it seems you have an archive_interval of 60s (1 minute). While in my opinion there is no benefit having an archive_interval that low, the downsides are a fast growing database, a bad performance and kind of ugly plots, espicially with wind, windGust and windDir. The only advantage I can think of, by setting a shorter archive_interval than 300s, is you get a "more live" view of the currant weather and you don't have to wait for the archive_interval plus the time, the report generation and upload needs, to view what currently happening.
If you don't want to relinquish having live data despite having an archive_interval that is producing nicer plot with a smaller database and a good performance: there are different skins that solve this problem. But this comes with extra configuration for the skin and things like MQTT for the live data.

Anyway: I'd always go for the standard value for archive_interval, which is 300s.

Thank you, Michael. I was not aware that I had specified an archive
interval. I may have set it when running 4.x or earlier. But this
time I started with the 5.1.0 configuration file.

The Davis system was down for about two months, and I had forgotten
how the wind direction plots looked. I do enjoy fast updates during a
storm, but I could live with a 3-minute archive interval. I shall
change it.

Inasmuch as I am running weewx as the only application on an old
machine, file size and performance are of little concern. I am not
aware that any one out here is interested in the web site, but it is
not expensive, and I enjoy making it available.

Thank you for the link, and the page reference. I do not recall
seeing the manual.
