Hey guys,

I am relatively new to Weewx and want to make sure that I'm getting the most out of it so I have a few questions for the veterans in the room.
  1. I am just starting to explore the best way to access and visualize my data both at home and while away. Do you typically use the Web UI (http://IP_OF_SERVER/weewx) or do you pass the data into another application?
  2. Regarding the Web UI: Do you use a skin? If so which one? Is there a good place to find a list of skins?
  3. Regarding mobile? Do you pass the data into an app? If so which one?
  4. Access away from home: Do you VPN back home? Or possibly export regularly to a Cloud VPS for remote access?
  5. Is there a list of most used extensions? List your favorite below.
I appreciate the advice in advance!
Thanks
-JM

1. I use the web UI but upload the data to a server run by my provider
2. I use a (non-shipped) skin. I use the Bootstrap skin which features real time live date shown in gauges and charts. You find a list in the wiki: https://github.com/weewx/weewx/wiki/#skins
3. The skin I use also renders well on a mobile.
4. No VPN, simple FTP-Upload (see 1.)
5. I guess one of the most used extension (beside some drivers) might be "weewx-mqtt" to enable the real time live data some skins provide. Also here, the wiki provide some information: https://github.com/weewx/weewx/wiki/#extensions-to-weewx

1) I use my site, plus while at home, I use Grafana. It's a bit better at looking at some random time period. I kind of did it to get familiar with MQTT, Influx and Grafana, but I've gotten to like it.
2) I use a custom skin based on the original - I started more than 5 years ago. I added steelseries gauges, an earthquake map, swimming pool temperature, air quality and other stuff over time. There are so many popular skins, I'd look at the https://weewx.com/showcase.html page for inspiration
3) I hate the idea of needing an app to view a web page - I just view the web page on mobile. It works fine.
5) extensions - figure out what you want to do, what you want to show, and add the extensions as you need them..

Thanks for the reply! Mind sharing a screenshot and possibly the json for your Grafana dashboard?

What do you mean by 'a server run by my provider'? I'm uploading to Wunderground and CWOP but I'm assuming that not what you're talking about.

It's a simple domian/webserver (apache2) with FTP access. Nothing else on this side. For the live data I an account at flespi.io (MQTT). Update interval for live data is 10 seconds. https://kainzbauer.net/weather/Rif/en/index.html

There are so many ways!
I've been using weewx for many years (and wview before that). Since I discovered MQTT, I now just send all the weather data to Home Assistant and do all the dashboarding there. Now I have all my home things in one place, and no longer need to FTP or RSync. Plus I can do fun automation things when weather events occur.. Like close the garage door when it starts raining.

I doubt the JSON would be helpful. I'm duplicating the weather data into a Influx db and running Grafana off that. The odd dx chart is a way for me to judge when to open and close the windows in the summer to optimally cool the house. Not much use in late October.
