I've been running WeeWX on a Raspberry Pi with a Fine Offset WH1080 more or less trouble free (apart from random USB port lockups every few months) for about 5 years. Lately I've been having issues more frequently and am thinking about a replacement. Am interested to hear from others who replaced a WH1080 with something else (other than a Davis system):

What did you choose?
Why?
Happy with the result?

The only thing I'm committed to is running WeeWX, preferably on a Raspberry Pi.

Thanks.

A friend of mine changed from a WH1080 after one more or less unhappy year to a WS2816 an ist quite happy now, although he is missing radiation an UV a little bit.

I think this is a great deal. Have UV and solar, wifi, works with alexa, google assistant, emits directly to weather underground and it's cheap. I have a FW1080 like you and this will be my next station

I'm kind of in the same boat... My  WH1080 which worked great for about 5 years finally died.  I'm looking for something to use as a direct replacement. I'm NOT A PROGRAMER and only got weeWx/Rpi3 to communicate with the console  through the gracious and patient help of a weewx group contributor (THANKS Vince!). The thought of trying to get a sniffer working is just to much to ask of anyone! Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks will have a look. A WH1080? (doesn't have radiation or UV). A later Fine Offset perhaps.

My site is down again :-(

The USB port lockups are happening every few days instead of every few months as before.

When I last looked at stations I shortlisted a TFA Nexus but it was long enough ago that I'm interested to hear what others have replaced the WH1080 with.

Interesting. First time I've come across Alexa as a feature. That's something I hadn't considered at all but having read about it seems a bit of a gimmick. I have an Alexa but ...meh. Attractive price though. Thanks.

Surely you only need a sniffer if you're trying to set up a local display instead of relying on a cloud-hosted service that gets data directly?

I dislike the WH1080 console and rarely look at it. For me, its real value when working is not as a display but to buffer data in the event of power outages--not uncommon in the winter. One of my wishlist items / plans is to set up a "magic mirror" display (https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror) with a Pi, perhaps a Pi Zero with wi-fi, with the weather as one of the display items. In the short term, however, I'm keen to have a simple console (black and white is fine) that buffers data. In terms of added features over the WH1080 I'd like a solar/rechargeable instrument unit with solar/UV, perhaps one or two optional extra remote temperature units. But most of all I'd like reliability! After that I think I'd like component level replaceability (instruments & console). My impression is that the market for things that work on 433MHz is a bit hit or miss in terms of compatibility :-(
