I did not expect to be able to see this. I looked at a BME680 that is
logging every minute, as I only store 5-minute data in weewx.

Nea Boston, MA, US, I saw the peak of the positive spike at 0448 UTC on
Jan 16. Compared to your graph, the amplitude is a bit lower and it's a
little more spread out in time.

I have the same spike here in California around the same time.

I'm assuming I caught both pulses; first was around Jan 15 10:25 am EST (pulse 0.40  ), second  around Jan 16 12:10 am EST (pulse 2.42 mb).

Both times weather was clear.

Fascinating.

At rural Victoria, Australia in the Sydney/Australia Timezone, which is +1100

BOM says it happened at "3.10pm AEDT on Saturday" (15:10 24hour)
which I put at 15th Jan 04:10 UTC

So it didn't register here until approx 4 hours later judging by the
attached TonganEruption.jpg

TonganEruption2.jpg shows the hPa craziness over that 40 minute period.

Hopefully I haven't screwed up the date maths - it is a tad late here!

Yup. The pressure wave hit my station on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada at 4AM (about 8 hours after the blast). It actually visibly cleared the high coastal fog. The Weather Service out of Seattle confirmed it cleared the fog at the airport there so I went looking on some local highway webcams and sure enough there it was. You can see it on my Twitter here:

And then 4 hours later we got the Tsunami from the event as well. I was lucky enough to see it as it entered our local river and changed the flow.

An exciting natural phenomenon day tempered by the fact we still have very little information about the impact of the blast on Tonga itself. Hoping they’re going to be ok.

Cheers

Italy here. I don't know if it was caused by it, but I have had some strange pulses on my pressure data:

Here you can see better (spike at about 9pm CET)

Youtuber Scott Manley had an interesting video about the eruption. Check out the weather station graphics about 3 minutes in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoMRwyNhqJ4

As noted on the page the terminator catches up to the shock wave.

Also, note the interesting glow on the cloud bank east of the eruption
cloud as darkness falls.

Cool stuff!

This is very cool!  I found the blast wave here in northern California at 4:00 PST / 12:00 UTC. It looks like the pressure disturbance and oscillations continued for about 3 hours after the initial spike.  From the satellite imagery it looks like the pressure wave was generated around 0500Z-0510Z, which means it traveled right at the speed of sound over the 8470 Km between here and there.

There’s a nice animation of ASOS station pressures showing the wave crossing the U.S. at https://twitter.com/akrherz/status/1482436390105272320

You can observe a steep rise in pressure at the time:

Hello All --

Here's my record of the shockwave hitting Seattle:
volcano-chart.png
Anomaly 1 is the short great circle, and Anomaly 2 is the long great circle. I did some analysis and wrote it all up at https://oneeyedman.net/posts/2022011901-volcano.html.

Cheers,

David
