Yes you need to use DarkSky or Aeris weather (with the 1.2 beta skin)

how is Belchertown updated, what do you have to be careful about between release and beta versions?

Belchertown is updated on the GitHub development page. Any and all files are subject to update. You can read the changelog and commits for all updates that take place. Your best bet is to follow the guide to keep your settings inside of weewx.conf so that you can upgrade without worry. If you modify the skin, it's up to you to re-introduce those modifications if you choose to upgrade.

@pat: Will the update also be done with "wee_extension --install weewx-belchertown-development.zip"?
Above or first a "wee_extension --uninstall weewx-belchertown-release-1.1.tar.gz"?

How to install the development version
If you want to try out the latest features the skin has to offer, you can install the development branch. To start download the development zip file. Then you can
- upload it to your weewx system and install it using
wee_extension --install development.zip
or
- manually replace the files from the zip file with your weewx Belchertown skin files.
Either way, we need to overwrite your current Belchertown skin install in the skins folder and the bin/user foler with the development files. Then you can configure the new features you want and restart weewx when done.
