I am New to both Weewx & Raspberry Pi so please bear with me.

My Sainlogic WS3500 is up & running and I am connected To Wunderground , PWS and others.

I am trying to install & run weewx, however I am getting an error

"Unable to load driver "

I have checked listed devices, I cant see the Sainlogic WS3500

a) Can anyone advise if the Sainlogic is compatible with weewx ?
b)  Any advice on remedy for driver error message ?

Many Thanks.......

Hard to say without seeing the log. See the wiki article Help! Posting to weewx user for how to get a good log.

Also, what do you mean by, "I cant see the Sainlogic WS3500". Using what tool?

Finally, how are you posting to the WU if weewx is not running?

Tom,

Many Thanks for taking the time to respond so promptly.......

I'll grab the data / logs and come back to you.......tomorrow now.

The tool or listing to find compatible hardware I got from http://weewx.com/docs/hardware.htm

Using the software WS View which was part of the out of the box package, I managed to connect to wunderground. ( copy screenshot attached )

I am looking to expand my horizions with Weewx / Raspberry Pi

I doubt WeeWX would run at the same time as EasyWeather, but I could be wrong. The log will reveal.

To connect the Sainlogic WS3500 to WeeWX you'll have the following options:

- Use WS View to configure the "Customized" server upload feature. There you'll choose Ecowitt protocol (not WU as that limits sensor available). You'll point it to your WeeWX system using the port and interval that you want. Then in WeeWX you'll install the Interceptor driver and configure it for type ecowitt-client. Make sure you listening port matches and that there are no firewall issues with that port and you are set.

- The other way is to buy the Ecowitt GW1000 with matching frequency of your Sainlogic (433, 868, or 915 MHz) and or if you have 868 MHz you can also get the Froggit DP1500 which is the same thing as a GW1000 with 868 MHz. Then you'll be able to use the WeeWX GW1000 API driver which is really nicely done and you can expand your station much further with even more sensors.

Many thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction.

It would be safe to say, at the moment anyway,  I have the bug and am keen to expand and explore.

If it is compatible, there is a HP1000 driver available from a contributor in Australia which works very well. This detects the IP address of the WiFi unit and interrogates it. I use it with my Aercus WeatherRanger and it is a lot better than the Interceptor driver.

Many thanks for your continued help.

I have ordered a Froggit DP1500 ( UK - 868 MHz )

I note your comments regarding customised upload ( Ecowitt protocol )

I also read you posting regarding  GW1000 API driver, ( your posting July 23rd 2020 refers )

I think I may be at my limit with Raspberry Pi, but will endeavour.

I believe another approach maybe using Ambient weatherbridge, however I believe they are no longer available....

Can you confirm if the Ambient weatherbridge software is available to purchase ?

I ultimately want to send data to Windy.

I have managed to get Windy to accept my IP Cam, so data hookup will make it complete ( for now )

Since you mentioned that you are interested in the Ambient WeatherBridge I thought you should know that I'm no longer recommending the WeatherBridge. I feel that the TP-Link hardware has reached its limit (not enough CPU power and software code is running at 94% RAM used, which makes menu navigation frustrating and unreliable. It is just that the Meteobridge software keeps gaining more and more capabilites and needing more resources. But fear not as the software in the WeatherLink is just Meteobridge and the good news is that now you can run Meteobridge on a Raspberry Pi and it runs perfectly. You gain the Meteobridge PRO features and it runs really fast and reliably. Do keep in mind that Meteobridge on the Raspberry Pi requires special SD card so be sure to review those recommendations. It is very simple to set up as you just copy the image to the SD card and power the Raspberry Pi on and then it is ready to go for you to configure with its nice web interface.

Many thanks for your continued help, patience & prompt reply.

I had read that the TP link option was struggling.

Just double checking, are you suggesting I should consider buying :

WUS02 Meteobridge uploadserver

As a user friendly solution ?

No do not get the WU S02. That is using TP-Link hardware. I suggest instead that you buy a Raspberry Pi 4B and buy the appropriate microSD card that is SLC (in the compatibility list) and then download the Meteobridge software. It is only 65 Euros to register the Meteobridge software license.

You'll need:
- Raspberry Pi 4B (1, 2, 4, or 8 GB ...doesn't matter but 2 or 4 GB is probably the better investment)
- 8 or 16 GB WD Sandisc SLC microSD card ...it must be one of these:  SDSDQED-008G-XI or SDSDQED-016G-XI
- download Raspberry Pi image:
- You should have a good 3 or 3.5 Amp power supply for the Pi 4B (USB-C) - get something designed for the Pi
- Get any case you like for the Pi 4B. I like the Flirc case because it cools without a fan

It is easy. You'll use BalenaEtcher free software to copy the image to the SD card and you are done.

Appologies to the WeeWX for discussing Meteobridge in the WeeWX user group....but I didn't bring it up. I feel that all these different software do not necessarily compete with each other but rather that they can coexist. I enjoy running all the various software simultaneously. I get a little different thing from each. It is very fortuitous that the GW1000 API allows multiple software/devices to simultaneously get live data.

I understand,  I suggest I am the one to apologise.

Impartiality and respect are noteworthy attributes...

Take care...

Thanks for the apology, but it's really not necessary. While WeeWX and meteobridge cover the same territory, they have different missions.

WeeWX is open-source software designed with the hobby enthusiast in mind. Flexibility, extensibility, and experimentation are primary goals. You are free to write your own drivers, uploaders, services, etc.

Meteobridge is a commercial product for those that value turn key solutions. It is not extensible, and it is not open source.

At least, that's how I position the two.

Besides, I'm not making a living off of WeeWX, so I don't have much at stake. I do it for fun.
