Hello,

First I would like to thank you for such a greate application.

I was reading around the group and found that you can enable the battery status reading on weewx by editing the schemas.py and recreating the stats.db
I did that and I am still unable to receive data for the ISS battery status.

Am I missing a step?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply.
Would changing from hardware to software null any of the existing collected data?

Also is there a pro/con to software vs hardware?

Thanks for the help!

No but it does have some small downsides which are documented in the customization help page..  http://www.weewx.com/docs/customizing.htm

you will see the LOOP VS Archive Comparisons (Down the Bottom of the Page)..

The only reason to go this route is if you really need battery status in your database.

If all you want is to monitor battery status and send you an email if it goes bad, this can be done with a special service, which monitors the LOOP data.

Thomas,

What special services would that be?
That's basically what I need.

Thanks for the help.

I have such a service. Right now, I'm away from my weather server, but when I get home I can send it to you.

Geez, what a dummy I am! You already have it! Look in bin/examples/lowBattery.py.

Instructions on how to install are at the top of the file.

Is there anyway this function can be tested?

Tested? Well, I guess you can take your battery out!

Works fine for me.

So it's not measuring the voltage?

If you are asking whether weewx is measuring the voltage, the answer is no. We are talking about the battery in the weather console --- weewx has no way of measuring that.

Instead, some weather consoles emit battery status, along with temperature, pressure, etc. This is what the low battery example uses.

Does that answer your question?
