I have a GW1000 and the WH31L and while it detects the lightning strikes, Weewx woefully underreports them. Does anyone know how to get the counts more inline with what is recorded?

I have these statements in the weewx.conf:

How do you know it's 'weewx' that is under-reporting and not the sensor itself ?

Did you compare to the readings the GW1000 posts to ecowitt.net (in case you have it do so - if not, do it and check the next events) ?

In my case weewx reports the same readings as what is posted by the consoles (several GW1000) to Ecowitt.net and to a template using the customized server option.

Ecowitt is more inline with what I would expect to see.

Considering you are comparing apples, oranges and bananas I see nothing inconsistent in the data you have presented. Your ecowitt.net data shows some 143 strikes between 615am and 8am on 18 July. I don’t know where you are located but I gather your timezone is six hours behind GMT, in that case the last row of the lightning_strike_count daily summary table covers 18 July; seemingly from midnight through to approximately 823am. That daily summary shows 176 strikes, not inconsistent with the ecowitt.net data given we don’t know what ecowitt.net recorded between midnight and 615am. You didn’t look at the lightning_strike_count column in the archive table, that would be a better comparison to the ecowitt.net data. Remember though you appear to be running a one minute archive interval whereas the ecowitt.net data is using a five minute interval.

The plots look somewhat different. I think this is due to a couple of factors. First your WeeWX plots are line plots whereas the ecowitt.net plots use bars. Secondly, since you are using a one minute archive interval each data point on your WeeWX plots show data for one minute in time. However, each data point on the ecowitt.net plots covers five minutes so the numbers are generally larger.

If you want to compare the ecowitt.net data with WeeWX you are best served by comparing the tabular ecowitt.net data against the lightning_strike_count column in the WeeWX archive. Of course you need to ensure you cover the same period for both and take into account the fact your WeeWX data uses a one minute interval.
