Wind direction in a "wind-rose" instead of a diagram?

Is it possible to have a wind rose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_rose) that shows the direction?
The time-aspect will be lost but I think the windrose is more readable.

folks,

could you post more links to wind roses and other graphic displays of weather data?  please highlight the things you like/dislike about the displays.

i am working on new graphing/plotting capabilities for weewx, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

VWS also have a "current-wind-dial" like this:

Maybe a bit out of topic but as my weatherstations is on a mobile connection (5 GB/month) the continous upload of JPG-images draws quite some data over a month. My suggestion is that images are uploaded on one interval (maybe once an hour) and more frequently (I note that my WMR200 is polled every 30 seconds so the textfile can be sent when that data is received) there is just a textfile sent that is converted into images by a PHP-script in the web server, like this:

Another thing that would be nice:

To have dual Y-scales. If I want both temperature and humidity, from one sensor, in one diagram then I could have a C-scale to the left and a %-scale to the right and different colors as is today. Now I have to split into two diagrams..

Wind direction plot over time (idea from WeatherDisplay), you set points on the wind rose, the older data record is, the point is closer to the centre:

I was using this type of plots for almost two years on some guest station and found it extremely useful. I personally fly hang glider so this type of wind direction plot is giving me a immediate view about wind direction, direction trend and direction variation. IMHO it is also one of the simplest wind-rose graph type: simple point drawing based on direction and time.

Not wind rose related, but could I suggest that a future plot engine have the ability to specify a start date/time for the plot or (the currently available) time_length.

That would be nice to have. I have been searching (without success) for a possibility to generate separate images for the last years of data I imported into weewx - this would be the solution.

There is always the meso extension which allows zooming in on the archived data to allow selection of any time interval desired.

I already installed meso and it has really very nice features and a great look. However, my raspberry pi is too weak to handle 8 Jears of data (almost 2.000.000 datasets) through meso - it takes minutes to see the graphs or zoom on the month or year scale. I am already  looking for faster hardware but the "microcomputer"-field seems to be evolving too fast at the moment.

However, I am sure the raspberry would be enough for producing year images for a html website, which already would make me happy ;)

I've got about 3 to 4 years of data on the pi, and yes it does take 30 seconds to get the archive.  Hopefully Peter will improve the getting of data for meso so that only the required data is taken from the database.  I was thinking of creating some additional indexes to try and speed up the acess over time.  I think the problem with meso is that he does not use the stats database at all, and for timescales greater than a year the stats database probably provides the required data rather than the archive database.  I love the graphing and zooming in meso though - and I know Peter is working on not getting all the archive data if one only requires say 12 months to plot.
