Distutils Deprecated and Meteotemplate Extension

I just moved my setup to a new machine with Linux 3.12. I tried to run the meteotemplate extension and got the message distutils not found. I now see that it is no longer supported in 3.12. So the question is, how to run the meteotemplate extension? I looked on Matthew's github but did not see any updates.

I would comment out the four lines referencing it. Looks like lines 63 and 79-82 which should disable the version check.
