As winter settles down around us in North America we tend to hunker
down ourselves and envy the bears who can hibernate until the sun
warms us again. That desire to hibernate spills over in our service
activities as well - just trying to get through our work days and
finding energy to spend time with our family is sometimes all we can
muster. However, our obligations to Rotary do not end because winter
begins. What ways have you found to keep energized and focused during
the winter doldrums?

Dear eClubber,

Happy New Year. A new year begins on a high note and then what happens. We get caught up with day to day work and slip into our daily routine. Over the last few months, I have been concentrating on work and Rotary has only accidentally excited me.
I have prepared the posting order for our club over the next 6 months. And have been reading some Rotary articles here and there.

New years eve was fun. Our family went out for a dance and we made some new friends. Rest of the time has been all work. Some new projects, some disappointments. Currently preparing myself for a business trip in the month of February. Keeping fingers crossed.

Yours In Rotary,

Bharat

"W hy are we all in Rotary? I believe we are here because we care, and because we see both what’s wrong in the world, and what’s right. And we want to carry forward what’s good, build on it, expand on it, help it grow – while taking a hard look at what needs to be changed in our lives and then doing what we can to change it."

 Happy New Year as Well,
Here in the Midwest we are experiencing warmer than normal temperature, even though it was predicted to be a cold, long, snowy winter.  As of yet no snow.  I am sure it is somewhere waiting for us, I just hope it is not in April.
New Years Eve found us going out to dinner and to a show, the movies were sold out so we ended up back home with a movie, popcorn and fire place.  Really very nice.
January always brings the birthday of our first grandchild, Katie.  She is now 7 and so much fun every day we love her more.
My daughter, Katie, 2 1st grade friends, all of our American Girl Dolls went downtown Chicago to the American Girl Store for lunch.  This is quiet the experience.  American Girl was originally started by a women who in her childhood went to tea with her grandmother.  The dolls are 18 inches, and have all positive attitudes and principles that are set in stories an dress.  When you go the lunch, the doll is also invited to the table with her own little tea set to boot.  It is a dressy, non stuffy fun setting.  Special memories like these remain in your heart forever.  I am blessed to have the family and love that we do.
Very happy every day to all!!

Hi eClubbers,
I think I have been lucky in a sense, that I keep avoiding the
winter. Winter is not really my favorite season. Though I do enjoy
staying warm by the fireplace, snuggling up under blankets, and
watching a beautiful snowfall - it is in the Spring and Fall months
when I really love to be outside. This year, my "winter" months are
taking place in Haiti, or as my 6 year old niece likes to call it
"Lovey, not Haiti". Last year, I avoided the huge amounts of snow by
spending 3 months in South America, where it was summer.

No matter what the weather is like, nor what season it is - there
always seem to be some struggles to stay energized and focused. I am
a person that tends to compartmentalize (is that a word?). For
example, I am in a few different leadership positions, both at work
and in some of the philanthropic organizations I am involved in.
Instead of attacking everything on my "to-do" list each night, I try
to focus one night with certain activities like class preparations, or
my P.E.O. communications, while the next night may focus on Rotary, or
reading some professional articles. Now I don't want it to sound like
I am all boring in my life, as I certainly try to mix in fun
activities. That is another part of how I stay energized in the quest
to find balance. Going out to dinner at the United Nations Grill,
trying to get out to the beach, or ride through the countryside, and
for me, it also included communication (mostly Skype) with my family.

In Rotary,
Kristin

It amazes me how well you stay balanced and focused on all you do.  I like your strategy and may try it myself, although I imagine it will take some practice.

Chicago finally found its way to winter and we had some beautiful snow over the weekend, nightmare for my business, but tons of fun to play in.  The grandkids came over and we did some sledding as well as a friendly snowball fight.  Tons of fun and so funny how the neighborhood kids all came out to join in, and not always on my side:)
Have a good week to all,
Jo-Marie

With Kristin's question, here, it's a matter of the summer doldrums.  Many activities shut down because of the heat and because so many people are taking time off for their holidays.  I tend not to tAke my holidays now, but prefer to use the time to get organised for the rest of the year.
