Mary Magdelene Project: "Legendary Hollywood" Event
Dear WeChangeLA members,
Thank you to all who participated in our Sunday morning of service at SOVA. As always, it was a great opportunity to take action and have an immediate impact on our community. Arriving at the SOVA site, we were greeted by a line out the door of families receiving the food that SOVA supplies, and a waiting room filled with more families waiting to sign up to receive food of their own. The need for SOVA's work, as well as the contributions of WeChangeLA's volunteers in our community couldn't have been more clear. Thank you to all of you for helping to meet this need.
As WeChangeLA continues to build connections to our community, the organizations with which we partner are taking note of our unique spirit of focused and dedicated action reaching out to us as partners in meeting the needs of our community. One of our strongest partnerships thus far has been with the Mary Magdelene Project, an outreach program which helps women and men to leave the sex trade. They have asked our help in staffing their upcoming fundraiser, which will be the crucial source of funds for the drop-in program they recently added to their previously women-only residential program. The drop-in program, housed in a new facility near one of the Valley's main open air markets for sex workers, will significantly increase the number of women that the Project is able to help, and allow them to serve men for the first time. This fundraiser is a gala with an old-school Hollywood theme, and will be on October 17th, beginning at 5:30pm. WeChangeLA volunteers will play an important role in the success of the event. Help is needed with jobs ranging from selling raffle tickets to facilitating a private auction. Shifts start at 5:30pm and at 7pm and will last until the end of the event.
If you are often unable to join our projects during the week or during the day, please take advantage of the rare opportunity to serve in the evening on a weekend. If you are a frequent volunteer, please join us for this event and help us strengthen our partnership with the only organization in Southern California dedicated to helping sex workers to build safer, healthier lives and rejoin our community.
