WeChangeLA's Health Care Canvass

The summer of health care reform is upon us, and until Congress passes President Obama's plan for reform, including insurance for everyone and a public insurance option, thousands of people will continue to rely on community organizations for help meeting even their most basic health care needs, from diapers and diaper rash cream to soap and band aids. This weekend, WeChangeLA is stepping up to help meet those most basic needs while spreading the word about health care reform to our neighbors.

On Saturday, June 27th at 10am WeChangeLA will meet at North Hollywood Park  (11455 Magnolia Blvd North Hollywood, CA 91601 on the North side of Magnolia between Tujunga and the 170).  After a brief training we will take to the streets and ask our neighbors to help us by donating any number of unopened personal health care items.  We will leave our neighbors with a list of needed items stapled to brown paper shopping bags (see full list below). Our neighbors will fill the bags and leave them outside their doors by Sunday, June 28th at 7pm when we will pick up the bags full of unopened personal health care items.

Beyond canvassing our neighbors, some of us will canvass outside of CVS, Ralphs, etc  and ask folks to pick up an extra toothbrush, diapers or other unopened personal health care items.

As well as canvassing, someone will be at North Hollywood Park to collect donations of personal health care items on Saturday, June 27th from 10am-4pm and Sunday, June 28th  from 7pm-9pm. If you're unable to volunteer this weekend feel free to drop off donations at the park. And tell your friends! That hotel shampoo from your business trips and that sample toothpaste from the dentist now have a home.

All donated personal health care items will be delivered to The Mary Magdalene Project (http://www.mmp.org/), SOVA (http://www.jfsla.org/sova/) and the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission (http://www.erescuemission.org/Display.asp?Page=sfvrmhome).
