WeChangeLA is collecting gifts for teens this coming weekend

Dear WeChangeLA member,

WeChangeLA’s December event is focused on helping our friends at M.E.N.D. (Meet Each Need With Dignity). As you may recall, in August we held a very successful clothing drive for teenagers on behalf of M.E.N.D. We chose December to continue to strengthen our relationship with this wonderful organization and bring a little additional joy to the people they serve. So we are asking for your help this Holiday Season! M.E.N.D has been serving San Fernando Valley residents since the 1970’s. It is an agency of 2900 volunteers from all walks of life, under the guidance of a small, dedicated staff, providing all the basic human needs vital to day-to-day survival, plus the education, training, opportunities and support essential to transitioning out of poverty. They are 99% volunteer-driven, with 119,000 hours of service donated each year, so WeChangeLA sees this partnership as quite natural.

The folks at M.E.N.D. have indicated that while this may be the season of toy drives and food donations, underprivileged teenagers are often left out. WeChangeLA’s project is to fill the needs of the teen population for this season.

We are asking our membership to help provide the teenage clients at M.E.N.D. with a new item from the lists below.

Gifts:
bead kits, model car/airplane kit, wallets/purses, jewelry kits, skateboards, watches (sport & dress), make-up kits, small radios/CD players, CDs, board games, art and craft supplies, and balls.

New Clothing:
Scarves, hats gloves, socks, t-shirts (white), hooded sweatshirts, sweaters

Gift Cards:
From any major department or discount stores in the San Fernando Valley.

Additionally, M.E.N.D. is in desperate need of new blankets.

WeChangeLA steering committee members will be staffing a drop-off site at 6942 Tobias Ave. Van Nuys, 91405 on Saturday, December 12th from noon-3pm & Sunday, December 13th from noon-3pm.

For more information on M.E.N.D. you can visit their website: www.mendpoverty.org
Happy Holidays and thank you for your continued support, generosity and participation!
