It took about twenty minutes before I was able to take an elevator alone. It was a new elevator (the building is fairly new) and there was absolutely nothing creepy about it, no music in the elevator, nothing. So, I started the steps of the game. Here they are.
1. Enter the elevator from the first floor by yourself. If anyone else gets on then understand that you cannot continue from the first floor and wait until the elevator can be taken alone.
6. Do not get out when you reach the second floor. Stay on the elevator and press the button for the tenth floor. Some have reported hearing a voice calling to them on the second floor during this middle section of the ritual. Do not reply. Do not answer in any way.
It has been reported by some that a woman may enter the elevator on floor five. She may appear as a stranger who wishes to engage with you. More importantly, she may appear as someone you know. It is important that you do not acknowledge her in word or glance. If the elevator you are in is reflective then stare at the floor or the buttons only.
A woman did get on at the fifth floor. The problem is that I never had an opportunity to not look at her because I was looking at the lights above the doors telling me which floor I was on and it startled me when the elevator suddenly stopped. By then I was already looking at the door and she was getting on.

Elevator Game is a 2023 American horror film directed by Rebekah McKendry and starring Gino Anania, Megan Best, Alec Carlos, Nazariy Demkowicz, Samantha Halas, Madison MacIsaac, Verity Marks and Liam Stewart-Kanigan.[1][2] Shudder released the film 15 September 2023.[3] Based on the online phenomenon of the same name, the film concentrates on a story about a mysterious ritual that may lead the performer into another, dark dimension.[4][5]
Ryan is an intern with a group of streamers, Chloe, Kris, Matty, Izzy, and Kevin, who investigate paranormal legends. During his first day, he suggests that the team investigate a local building where a young girl named Becki is rumored to have gone missing after playing the "elevator game". He declines to tell them that Becki is his sister and he only joined the group in hopes of gaining answers through their investigation. In order to play the game, the participants must travel to specific floors in a set order, and, when they are on the fifth floor, must keep their eyes shut until the doors close. If successful, they will enter the spirit realm, but if they fail, they will be torn apart by the Fifth Floor Woman, which is what happened to Becki.
The team films themselves undergoing the challenge, only to get interrupted. They also lose half the footage due to recording anomalies caused by the ritual. Kris refuses to re-do the task and suggests that they abandon the idea. Angered, Ryan reveals his identity and the knowledge that Kris refused because it would reveal his inappropriate relationship with Becki, who was underage. Disgusted, the team separates and the Fifth Floor Woman kills Kris. Izzy and Kevin perform the elevator game again and are killed by the Fifth Floor Woman. Ryan also performs the ritual, resulting in him visiting the spirit world. He is chased back to the human world.
In the office, Ryan and Chloe encounter a terrified Matty, who has also encountered the woman. Chloe discovered that the woman is the vengeful spirit of a sorority pledge Allie, who was killed by a hazing prank. The sorority had left her in an elevator shaft, where she was accidentally crushed. The only way to stop her is to repeat the ritual. The Fifth Floor Woman kills Matty. Chloe and Ryan repeat the ritual but are unsuccessful as Chloe is killed while Ryan becomes permanently trapped in the spirit world. The film ends with a social media influencer entering the elevator to make a video about the team's disappearance.[6][7][8]
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 36% of 11 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 4.8/10.[9][10] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 47 out of 100, based on 5 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[11]
Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com praised the film for its characters while also criticizing it for its flow, pointing out that "even the characters comment on how going from one floor, then up to another, then down, and then up to another, etc., is almost a joke."[12] Phuong Le of The Guardian was also critical, as they noted that the film's premise was "ripe with potential for world-building details and creative designs, but there is little visual flair on show here."[13]
Also called, "The Elevator Game", it's a sequence of pressed buttons on an elevator that's supposed to transport the player to another dimension. The sequence of the buttons and movements are as follows:
"You need an elevator at least ten stories high. You enter the elevator, which must be empty, on the first floor. Then, you press the 4th floor button. Upon reaching the 4th floor, you press the 2nd floor. On the 2nd floor you press a button for the 6th, when you get to the 6th floor you press the button for the 2nd floor again. Upon arriving at the 2nd floor, press the button for the 10th. When you reach the 10th, you press 5.
The game was described in Episode 103, as a theory behind the apparent suicide of a young woman whose body was found in the water tower of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles in 2013. Video footage from the elevator the evening she was believed to have disappeared shows her pressing a sequence of buttons, exiting and entering the elevator, and she appears to be hiding from someone unseen by the camera.
Accordingly, what I knew about the game at the time was limited. It was pretty clear, for example, that the legend originated in an East Asian country; however, there was some debate over which country in particular lay claim to it. It was Korean, some said; no, it was Japanese, others thought.
If you wish to terminate the ritual early, you may do so as detailed in Step 13 of Venturing Out, as long as the elevator has not yet passed the ninth floor on the way to its final ascent to the 10th. If you have already passed this point, it is too late. You must see it through to the end.
Given the inconsistencies between reports, it is therefore not entirely known what you may expect from the other world. You may see or experience what others have before you; or, you may see or experience something unique or previously unknown.
Getting back to your own world may be more difficult than it seems. Should you choose to exit the elevator on the 10th floor, you may become disoriented and forget which elevator in which you initially arrived; the elevator may seem to get further and further away from you as you walk towards it; and so on. Be vigilant, and keep your wits about you.
Before you step in, take a long moment to familiarize yourself with the lobby around you. How many lights does it have? What is the exact pattern along its walls? What does it smell like? How do shoes sound scuffed against its floors? It will be important that you remember every detail later. Maybe life-or-death important.

As I stated before, you are not to make any contact with this strange woman who may join you on your journey. She is malevolent and can claim you as her own. Should you accidentally make contact, things will no longer be the same even if you successfully end the ritual and return to the real world.
People have reported seeing her in their homes, out in public and at their workplace, often whispering things into their ears and trying to control their every move. Nightmares may occur where you are in a different world with her and you are her slave. She will make you do unspeakable things. There is no known way to get rid of her at this point. You belong to her.
This is a new horror game not unlike Candyman or even the one we see in Talk to Me. In other words, a ritual that takes place in an elevator and results in something scary. In the case of this particular game, those who play the game are attempting to travel to another dimension.
However, the fact that she also produced the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards is where her love of horror really comes across for me. Well, along with her movies, obviously. For me, they can be a bit hit or miss, but I never regret watching them and I always see something I like!
Cautionary tales have been a part of horror since people have told scary stories involving a friend of a friend. Elevator Game is the latest horror movie to use an online challenge. Ryan (Gino Anania) has recently befriended a group who spend their time debunking urban legends. His sister disappeared months before and he believes it was a result of the titular game. In an attempt to find his her, Ryan convinces the group to take try it. He risks horrible consequences in order to discover the truth.
