acctentries Table

The entries table has a column called number. What is it used for? Is it not redundant to the id column ?

I am writing a php script to make independent entries into the ledger from an outside application. I have figured out what all the columns in both  acctentries and acctentryitems tables come from. I am trying to figure out how to set the number field in acctentries.

Please help explain how number is used in your application.

Hi,

"number" is the entry number and its not unique and it can be empty. Eg : Receipt and payment entry can have the same entry number.

ID is unique.
