All,

After installing the add in I get the following error:

The Add-in 'WebWidgetry DataServices' failed to load or cause an
exception.
Would you like to remove this Add-in?

If you choose yes.........

Error Message: Catastrophic failure
Error number: 8000ffff

I am using VS 2008 with SP1.

Thanks for any help....

Yikes. That's not good. Could you do me a favor? Uninstall WW.DataServices (Start > Nth Penguin > Uninstall WW.DataServices).

Then please try this link (will expire after 3 download attempts): http://www.nthpenguin.com/Download.aspx?customer=084c7873-baa2-422c-bd35-a81344d0a06f

Re-install using that package and let me know if you have any better luck.

I've seen this issue internally, but really thought we had it fixed (it only happens on some machines for some reason).

And I apologize for the delay in replying. We're coming off of a pretty crazy week here... we'll try our best going forward to reply to questions asap, we just hope you bear with us :)

I will try that and update when done.

Thanks for the help.

Well,

It wouldn't let me download it, says "The key you have specified has
already been used. Please contact sa...@nthpenguin.com if you would
like assistance."

I must have done something wrong. Could you let me try it one more
time??

Thanks,

Doyen

Guys,

Thanks for the email. I completed the download, but I still get the
same error. Any other suggestions??

Thanks.

Ryan,

I rebuilt the site in 2.0 and it now produces a DLL like I would expect. :)
I will do further testing, but that is a great sign. I am perplexed, in
that setting a site to 3.5 shouldn’t really matter, and I am puzzled as to
why it would.

Hmm. No, unfortunately I don't have any ideas off the top my head as what might be the cause (can't repeat it here with the current installer).

OK, so as annoying as this request is, do you have access to another machine that has VS on it, so that we can see if you can get it up and running and then try to compare differences in the environments?

Kevin, that's good news!

Also, sorry but can we try not to interject into other people's threads?

I just want to keep this support group a bit organized, as well as not step on people's toes :)

Thanks!

I will have to give a try later this week on my machine at home and
see if it works.

Do you think there could be something in the registry that needs to be
deleted?

What are the registry keys that the addin uses??

Thanks.

The plugin doesn't actually use any registry keys, so that's not it. Give that other machine a try and let me know how that goes. We'll try to reproduce the issue on our end as well.

Well, still same issue.

Here is what I did. I installed it on another machine and it worked
fine at first.

It added the window to visual studio. I docked the window and turned
off autohide. I then closed the window by clicking the X on the
window. After that I get the catastrophic error again.

One more thing. I can do this in VS2005 and I never get the error.

Just thought I would report back. Sorry it took so long.

No problem on the timing, Doyen. I'm sorry to hear about that. We will put this issue as a high priority in our bug database.

For now, perhaps you can try to use the new version (just put up on the site last night). Hopefully you'll have better results...

Okay. Now both VS2005 and VS2008 are throwing the same error.

On a good note, it was a nice tool when it worked.

OK... let's try something else Doyen. First of all, make sure you have installed the latest version (from our website)

  • Right click on your Visual Studio shortcut (and if you don't launch it from a shortcut, let's create one)... and click "Properties".
  • At the end of the "Target" value, enter "/resetaddin WWPlugin.Connect"
  • Click "OK" - and now run Visual Studio... see if WW.DataServices behaves better now

Ryan,

Ok... Did that and now i get "The following files were specified on
the command line: /resetaddin WWPlugin.Connect These files could not
be found and will not be loaded.

Any ideas?

Sorry for all the trouble.

Not a problem at all Doyen.

So your "Target" property in the shortcut should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /resetaddin WWPlugin.Connect

Sorry, I should have pasted that in my original post... but notice no quotes around the resetadding stuff (sorry, I only added the quotes in mine to separate it from the rest of my text... I shouldn't have done that)

Okay. Now some progress....

I can now use the Data Services, but I still get the error on the
interface.

Alright, now try the same thing for interface... launch your VS shortcut with the following target:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /resetaddin WWInterfacePlugin.Connect

Ryan,

After reading another post,
http://groups.google.com/group/webwidgetry-users/browse_thread/thread/57521776e6062b53?hl=en#,
I tried what was suggested.

Actually, I uninstalled both the Data and Interface and the installed
them again.

I moved them from my network drive and everything is working the way
it should be.

Hope that helps you solve some more issues!

Ryan,

Our 'My Documents' folder is on a network drive. Is there anyway to
install the products on our hard drive? I didn't see an option to
browse for installation site when I do the install.

Not in this version (this is one of the shortcomings being worked on for an upcoming release)... As of now if you want to play with the tools you'll have to do it on a machine that has My Documents as a local folder.

Sorry!

Okay.

That is the only issue I have right now. When I try to run it, it
says it cannot run on network share.

I will have to wait to try it at my house then.

Thanks again for all your help.
