Hi Shuaib,
got it going now. Happy again.!

But it still was some kind of adventure. But do´nt worry, I will not
complain again.

Although there should be some sober consideration, I think:

If WebVZ should become common, there should be a good commented
installation routine for Ruby,
guiding people through all the warnings and suggestions.

WebVz will not start untill evrything is allrigt with Ruby. Then, itself
can be startet with a few clicks and that is, what people want.
Going through all the trouble by installing Ruby, might just prevent them.
Because we can not do the work of Ruby´s developers, there should be at
least a good guideline.

But this is ajob, sombody better than I for this, should do.

I really do´nt have much time, because I have to manage make some bread
by now, but I will put ev´ry free hour into making some nice design for
WebVZ.
So let me ask you some questions:
I know nothing about Ruby, but I guess, you have created WebVZ with it.
Are the templates you are using, also done with Ruby?
I want to download the WebVZ folder down, into Dreamweaver. So if you
have a list with the link-structure of the application, could you please
send it to me? It would save some time. If you don´t, I find out myself.

As I could read at google-group, you are planning to to expand the app
with a user/custumer interface and so on.
It would be nice, if you could keep it as simpel and powerfull as it is now.
Before I landed at yours, I´ve tried out diffrent tools, and found, that
they become to inconvinient, when it commes to handling the reseller
and user interfaces/accounts. I think that people wait for a tool which
simplifys that.

Okay, so far by now.

Thanks again and a hole lot of success

Ralph

I am glad that you managed to run webvz.
Yes, in fact, some people faced little problems in installing ruby. However, it is kinda easy and straight. I will try to make some write up regarding the common issues in ruby installation.

As for the template. ruby has nothing to do with the look and feel. It is CSS/HTML

the css file is available in public/stylesheets

the main layout is available under
aoo/views/layout
the other interfaces are available under
app/views

this is MVC style, as an interface designer, just play with the html css stuff and do not bother about any code between <% %>
thanks and good luck

Hi Shuaib,

I think, I should excuse myself first.
I was quite uptight and tired, because of the problems with the installation of Ruby and so I got a bit loudmouthed in my last mails.
I am sorry for that. Plese excuse me.

I did install my whole System again, to find out, why I was getting in trouble and this is, what I found out:

I have mixed the two tutorials, when Iwas getting in trouble with one of them.
Searching Google I read, that sqlite3 needs swig to be installed. I do´nt know, if this is true, but just installed it.
After I followed the instruction on
 http://www.howtoforge.com/install-webvz-2.0-on-debian-etch-to-administrate-openvz

When I came to the step

main:~/webvz.2.0# ln –s /etc/vz/conf /etc/sysconfig/vz-scripts

it gives me back, that it´s not aloud to set a hard-link to there and that there is no such file or directory.
So I browsed my files and found the vz-scripts folder in /etc/vz/dists/scripts.
I set a softlink from there to /etc/vz/conf /etc/sysconfig/vz-scripts.
After this I could also set the softlink to /etc/vz/conf /etc/sysconfig/vz-scripts.
Then using the fix for the sqlite-adapter and everything was fine.
Was a very quik and easy Ruby installation this time.

My OS is an Debian-etch
and I´m using the linux-image-2.6.26-bpo.1-openvz-amd64_2.6.26-5~bpo40+1_amd64.deb-kernel,
because I had some problems with the standard OpenVZ-kernels on my maschine. Maybe this also is related to my problems.

Maybe this is interesting for some people that have the same problem.

Regards

Ralph
