Heel strikes are going to be swing related especially with already having a shorter shaft. AOA is affected by club path. The more inside to out the more positive it will be. The more outside to in the more negative it will be.
A quick tip for any budding self-fitters out there: eliminate the variables first. That means once you are certain one element is functioning OK, it can be discarded as the cause. So before you even start your backswing, make sure the fundamentals are in place - that means (and I know it sounds boring) grip, stance, ball position, alignment, tee height. Basics. And a good pro will identify this in minutes - and potentially save you wasting money on equipment.
Thanks. My grip and setup is ok and I have kinda seen a pro about that and used Monte's videos. I actually have to use a low tee height in the standard ball position but can play it a little higher if i tee closer to my lead foot (basically inline with my big toe). I learned my lesson the hard way with some sky balls :S
That is awesome that you got to participate in a truly custom shaft created to your desires/fitting needs. Man wouldn't that be nice if it were feasible for all golfers to go and be able to have a fit shaft actually fit and feel right each time? Guess I can dream for a day.....
Randy, did you ever get the fitting done? Knowing your AoA among other swing/impact data would be so helpful. I was happy to hear my fitter tell me my AOA was right where he'd want it. My shaft change from Alta CB stiff to the KBS Tour Reg was more reflective of my not so amazing 92 mph swing speed and the help the R-flex offered getting improved square at impact. I'm seeing a conservative 8-10 yards increase in carry and more short grass landings.
Hey Bill. I did see my fitter and he helped me setup my current specs. Ok am currently testing some more forgiving heads to see what I can accomplish. I will say I am not hitting fairways like I want to. With the Fuji 2.0 I was a higher clip but way less distance
What did they show for your AoA; was it low as you thought? Prior to my fittings, I picked up a used Callaway Razr-Fit 9 degree to replace my GBB I had been gaming for nearly 20 years. When I was selected to test the G410P, I tested the 9 degree and 10.5 degree at a course/pro shop in Yuma. It was that non LM fitting that we selected the 9 degree and Alta CB stiff - largely just watching ball flight. So much of what I read suggests far too many players are using too low a lofted driver and I really expected the TrueSpec fitter to recommend adjusting mine to a higher setting or even a new, higher nominal lofted head. He said the AoA and LA looked fine... it really surprised me.
Was listening to a TXG video and Ian mentioned that for most amatures with their swing speed getting peak height around your 6 iron swing speed is pretty good. Much faster players, tour speeds, peak more around there driver swing speed. By his math if you swing a 6 iron at around 80 then that peak height is right on.
If you feel your strike is pretty good but your accuracy is hurting your game. Or if you feel you curve the ball too much in the air, or even want to learn how to do that intentionally, my Accuracy Plan program is for you (click the image below).
Unfortunately, focusing on it alone is not enough. However, if you actually do it, you will guarantee the result of a draw. Check out my Accuracy Plan to learn how to actually get that face more closed to the path (and path more in-to-out), as well as processes for speeding up the learning of it. CLICK HERE to learn more
Try working on a stronger grip to keep the club face closed. (Overexaggerate on the range so you hook the ball left to start so you get a feel then dial it back.) I had a wicked slice that I always thought was caused from coming over the top but it never matter how flat I got the swing bc my grip was just wide open.
Fighting a consistent miss on the toe for most of this year with several different head, shaft, loft and lie configurations. I game strictly Titleist drivers and am currently playing TS2 11.5 set open on C1 to battle the low/left miss.
My question is, my overdraw/hook seems more strike driven than face/path both of which are near neutral on trackman. If anything, I do typically come from slightly inside with a .5 to 1 degree AOA. What effect does changing the lie angle of the driver have on strike? I've watched several fitting videos with Titleist at TPI and the top fitters like JJ claim they make adjustments using the surefit hosel to move the strike location. Can we assume that driver is similar to changing lie on an iron and that flat moves it towards the toe while upright brings it to the heel?

No you really can't make that assumption - largely due to the fact that the ball is teed up so high off the ground. there is no change in the clubs interaction with the ground to drive any impact location changes or adjustments like there can be with irons.
But that doesn't mean it might not. With the driver, the strike tendencies can be visually driven and changing either face angle (loft) or lie can potentially effect the visual and therefore the impact location. It just means you have to give it a try to see what will happen.
However, if that doesn't work, more people typically have a lot more success fixing impact location issues on drivers by going shorter with the playing length. So try choking up and playing around with some lead tape.
This portion of the Ghost of Tsushima guide includes all the Bamboo Strike Locations across Act 1: Izuhara, Act 2: Toyotama, and Act 3: Kamiagata. Completing these Bamboo Strikes will increase Jin's resolve which is used to heal in battle and execute special moves. In short, Bamboo Strikes will help you in combat.
Interact with the Bamboo Strike and you'll have to follow several patterns to complete the strike. Don't worry though, they're all separate so you don't have to do them perfectly back to back. Below are some tips for completing the strike.
How to Get to Akashima Bamboo Strike: In the southern edge of the Toyotama region, head north past Castle Kaneda to where Lord Shimura leads you to Fort Ito and the lighthouse. Just to the north of the fort overlooking the sea below is a bamboo strike area.
How to Get to Umugi Bamboo Strike: On the far southeastern corner of the Umugi prefecture in the Toyotama region, past Lady Sanjo's Bridge and on the other side of the Umugi Cove settlement, search the coast for the bamboo strike area by the shores.
How to Get to Yarikawa Bamboo Strike: Once you have made it into the Yarikawa Stronghold as part of the main quest in the Toyotama region, head up to the right of the steward's tower at the eastern edge of the stronghold, and you can find this bamboo strike overlooking the sea below.
How to Get to Kushi Bamboo Strike: Found in the northeastern part of the Kushi prefecture on the ridge of the large mountain leading to the Kubara Prefecture in the Toyotama region, take the path north of Benkei's Falls to a watchtower with the bamboo strike at its base.
