Hi there :)

i started to configure WSL to monitor my Aurora WSL. Initial install of the package went well and i have the front-end up end running.

When i get to connecting the inverter i do have some issues. I bought a PL2303  chip-set device to convert rs485 <> USB and attched this to my Aurora.

when doing dmesg the following is displayed

[ 6479.196968] usb 1-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 6 using dwc_otg
[ 6479.302672] usb 1-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=067b, idProduct=2303
[ 6479.302709] usb 1-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[ 6479.302730] usb 1-1.2: Product: USB-Serial Controller
[ 6479.302746] usb 1-1.2: Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.
[ 6479.306514] pl2303 1-1.2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
[ 6479.317267] usb 1-1.2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

doing a lsusb this is listed

pi@ChapmanSolar ~ $ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 067b:2303 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port

Then i try to configure the device in the ADMIN module an whatever i do , i always get a failure on the device test. the attached screens are showing my setup

Am i making a mistake with the RS485 setup? or could it be the device i am using for the 485<>USB conversion.

Looking forward to the response

Just use the URI and point to the AURORA software.

Mine is;

/home/PI/aurora-1.8.3/aurora -Y5 -l5 -M10 /dev/ttyUSB0

Yes you need the aurora package from Curt. Did you get it working?

There is good installation guide.

At the end off the guide you do an sudo make install which will put the files in the right places.

I think it is in the downloaded file. Extract the file and check the contents.

Got it...

found a nice Italian website maybe the instructions below can be added to the WSL installation guide

5. Install AURORA 1.8.3

5.1 Download package

$ cd /home
$ wget http://www.curtronics.com/Solar/ftp/aurora-1.8.3.tar.gz

5.2 Unzip package

$ tar -xzvf aurora-1.8.3.tar.gz
$ rm aurora-1.8.3.tar.gz

5.3 make and install

$ cd aurora-1.8.3
$ make
$ make install
$ cd /..

Mmhhh just checked my old package from 1.8.3 and I think you should extract the file and run make. After the make is successful then run sudo make install. But I did not saw an guide

The Aurora tarbal (aurora-1.8.6.tar.gz) contains a file INSTALL and in this file the "installation procedure" in explained.

It is not WSL its goal to make and maintain installation manuals for thirdparty packages.

Marco,

it was not to make a very detailed description of the WSL manual, but this seems to miss out in the great doucment you guys have posted on the website. I found out that this Aurora software is a requirement for WSL. I found this on the website and would have expected to find this in the manual.
However with the support in this gorup i got to the right stage to be able to continue.

Willem,
thanks for the help here, after getting this sorted and rewiring the RS485 connection it works as a charm!
