I really don't get how to start

Hi,
I've installed web.py and all required stuff on my webspace but I really don't get how this works. I tried to work with the code samples from webpy.org and none of it works. Thats why I think Im doing it wrong. All whats displayed are things like this for example

$def with (page, title=None)

my site

$:page

Are there any tutorials for beginners on that topic, that you could recommend?
