My tentative schedule is:
  • 8am - 10am : breakfast and morning open social
  • 10am - 12am : morning session of structured activities
  • 12pm - 2pm : lunch and afternoon open social
  • 2pm - 4pm : afternoon session of structure activities
  • 4pm - 6pm : un-conference style, show and tell what you've done so far
  • 6pm - let out for post-dev happy hour
I've had requests for presentations or sessions on:
  • how to use the sdk
  • your first webOS app (hello world)
  • how to root your pre
Any takers for presenting or teaching? They don't need to be advanced or fancy. Just help people get their feet wet.

I have 2 blocks: 10-12 and 2-4 of structured presentations or classes. Or you can do something during the more un-conference style session 4-6.

Many Thanks,
Alice Carback

I'm certainly up for this, what should we bring to ensure success?  Power strips?

Oh goodie, my paperwork for a room at UMBC just now showed up. It is pending approval. I might still have a room after all. But I like the Panera-style joint event better. I'm gonna be busy today, but I'll try to get you a initial head count by tomorrow night.

Many Thanks,
Alice Carback

Wow I hate my school sometimes. No room for me. They didn't used to be so picky about student events. Now they're saying student events can only be during Fall or Spring semesters. psssh, whatever.

Anyways, I have approximately 20 people registered. 1 or 2 can't make it because its a Saturday and some can't stay the whole time. Not everyone is going to be there the whole time or all at once.

So we may still be able to do a Panera-style event. Not of cafes are created equal. Does anyone have any suggestions of cafes with a least a few tables that can sit 4?

Many Thanks,
Alice Carback

Sorry, Alice, I guess I didn't read this before.

No one has responded to me about things, other than the few on this Google Group. I didn't really have a ton of interest in organizing, more in just kicking off a get together, which is I'm sure why I haven't heard from more.

I'm very interested in contributing, though, as I said before. Whether it's demoing the tools (including debugging) or whatever, I'm in. I could also show my little async storage lib, Syncopate, which works in webOS.

Okay, I'm gonna take lead on a DC/Baltimore event.

How about this?

Panera Bread
8541 Georgia Ave
Silver Spring, MD 20910-3402

A few blocks from the silver spring metro station, looks like a nice sized Panera. Anyone ever been there?

Many Thanks,
Alice Carback

That could prob work for me. I dunno about getting there before 10, though. I'm sooooo not a morning person, and leaving the house at dawn voluntarily is not my cuppa tea haha.

You could present in the afternoon.

I'm good with that location. Is there anything I can do to help?

Guys,

I will try to be there for as much of the day as I can.  My wife tends to work on the weekends (portrait photographer) so I'm going to start looking for childcare for our 3-year-old.  Hopefully can get some for most of the time my wife will be working.

Roy,

Yes, would you like to present or teach during one of the structured session?

Everyone,

Do you guys think I should call the manager there and
  • give him a heads up?
  • ask if I can put a sign out front?

Many Thanks,
Alice Carback

I would definitely call to give a heads-up. I could talk about
debugging applications. If I have time to get into it some I'd love
to do a redux of the test-driven development / unit testing talk but
I'll be honest and say that I haven't started using it with my own
applications yet. :)

I could also talk about the development environments, Eclipse/Aptana
and Komodo. I haven't used TextMate, tho.

I think we should determine the venue first then organize a structure.  I like Alice's idea of Panera, but if we are going to go that route, shouldn't we call ahead and see if we could do some sort of 'table reservation'

I was looking at the panera in silver spring, but for our event they recommended Panera #3761 at 12285 Tech Rd, Silver Spring, MD‎ which is newer and has much more table space.

I called and they are okay with people having meetings. Tables are first come first serve so I would have to get in early and squat a few tables in the corner with the power outlets.

Their initial answer was no for a sign for our event. I think we can live without a sign. But they did give me a phone number to try on Monday for special services devision of Panera. They might be able to help make specific arrangements.

Thoughts?

Many Thanks,

I don't honestly see us needing a sign.  Honestly how many Pre owners are walking through silver spring wondering whether there is a pre dev event in the area.  I think most of us are either on the pre dev forums or on this email thread.  Sounds good, good work Alice!

Is anyone close to that address that can scout it or do i need to make a trip down?

Many Thanks,
