Daniel Einspanjer pointed me to this XMPP extension that looks
potentially useful for the notify.io project (that is, if we're even
going to use XMPP...) -

Ignoring all the issues with XMPP itself, this extension (which is referenced often by the XMPP community) doesn't seem to have many implementations. In fact, a friend tried to find even a reference implementation and found nothing. To me, this extension is complexity built on complexity. Perhaps it's worth exploring if you're married to XMPP already, but PubSubHubbub (or at least, my implementation) achieves the same thing much simpler via HTTP.

Heh, "complexity built on complexity". That's what I thought when I first saw it too. How the subscription, etc. currently works in Seagulls (via the xmpp4moz plugin) was simple enough to implement.

Nevertheless, it's worth looking at later, if we end up going with XMPP since this is the "right" way to implement what we want.

That's what they want you to think.

Hence, the quotes around the word. ;)
