AlthoughSpain has had a long tradition of keyboard music, A History of Spanish Piano Music is the first study of that rich heritage. Linton E. Powell surveys the lives and works of over 150 composers from the eighteenth century to the present and discusses the relevant schools of composition, the regional styles, and the effects of social and political developments on the music of Spain. The first chapter deals with Spanish piano music from 1740 to 1840, with special attention to the first works for which the fuerte piano was designated, the earlier role of the organ, and the far-reaching influence of Scarlatti. Succeeding chapters chronicle the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with detailed discussions of the composers Arriaga, Albeniz, Granados, Falla, Turina, and Mompou. The special influence of the guitar on Spanish keyboard music occupies a separate chapter. Powell concludes with a treatment of musical trends in Spain since World War II. Appendixes list published sources of Spanish keyboard music, a glossary provides the rhythmic patterns of many traditional Spanish dance forms, and, finally, a bibliography completes this valuable reference work.
The dates for the train station auditions for The Piano UK are only shared between successful applicants and Love Productions. Sometimes Mika, Lang Lang and Claudia share Instagram stories when they're filming and some people have been lucky enough to get to a station in time to see some of the pianists. But details are rarely made public. The only thing I do know is that station auditions are happening anytime now through to October on 5 different dates, but the production company could change this at any time.
Thanks so much! ? Yes, I was in London when they taped the show this year but got there too late... And what about the final concert? I saw lots of people go to Manchester to attend this year... Do you know when it's made public? I guess they share the info as they need an audience... I just feel like some people always know when to attend and where to go, get inside information or sthg...
Hi Claire -- when you say "he literally just talked about it", do you mean Mika? Because as far as I've heard he hasn't said anything to confirm he's doing The Piano in Spain yet. As for the UK, it's basically what others have already told you -- in the past, they haven't announced when they will be anywhere in advance. It's just that eagle-eyed people have seen messages on social media revealing where they were, and if people live close enough they've been able to get there in time to catch some of the filming.
This year they announced the final concert well in advance because they were selling tickets -- it wasn't a secret, they posted about it and so did we. Tickets went pretty fast, from what I understand. The first year it was a little more secret as it was all new and they were trying to keep the element of surprise. I'm sure once filming gets underway and they have a good idea of the schedule they'll announce the final concert a few months in advance again, at least for the UK.
#Mika talked about it a few days ago saying it would be happening in the next few days, right before the summer festivals... not in the fall, and he didn't lie, they just started shooting today in #London. Mika & The Piano UK Official posted about it moments ago.
Is anyone at Liverpool Street Station in London right now? Not sure if I should go... Can't tell if they already wrapped up for the day or just started... I kinda live far away... If anyone knows, please DM me & LMK.
I met Mika today in London while he was filming! I saw his Instagram post and luckily it was my day off *and* I was in London anyway, so I quickly jumped off my train and head off in the opposite direction!
I saw some filming going on (some great pianists!) and then Mika came down and I almost passed out ?? As he was walking off I saw a few people asking him for selfies and he was very obliging. So I took my chance and I'm so glad I did, because he was so lovely and didn't judge me while I was just standing there attempting not to shake too much I then ended up walking around in a bit of a daze for an hour because I didn't know what to do with myself what an incredibly surreal day (p.s. I know this isnt a very flattering pic of me, but you can bet I'm making copies and sending it round to everyone I know !! :D)
With Mika's scheduling I really doubt this, as I've said before auditions are happening up to October. That's 4 months from now and there's 4 more locations to film at, I'm guessing one per month from July.
As for the final concert it's likely it will be advertised by The Piano team on their social media (@thepianouk for both IG and X) or from whatever venue they'll use, which is what Aviva/Factory did this year.

Since I had the first conversation with Carlos I realized that I had not been wrong, I initially wanted to buy the piano without going to try it, and he convinced me to go to his great store, the truth is that I was able to try all the pianos that there was in the store, to stay calm and choose the most appropriate.
We needed to buy a piano for our son and we only knew that it had to be a Yamaha U3. We started looking for it all over Spain (the internet is very helpful for this) and after a long journey we found a store in Benalmdena, ROYAL PIANOS, and one person, CARLOS, who got us just what we were looking for. Now we are all delighted.
We want to give a huge thanks to Carlos and Royal Pianos for advising us on the purchase of our first piano. The piano is wonderful, it meets all our expectations, the quality/price is magnificent, the purchase process was simple and easy. After having been waiting for more than a month for the English Court to serve us a piano that never arrived, after contacting Carlos we had it installed and working in 3 days.
