From the starting of this year, I have started reading several books. Among those Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey is noteworthy. I want to write a short review of this book. This book has kept a great impact on my life. I have changed a lot after reading this book.

Habit One - Be Proactive. We will have a clear understanding of proactive and reactive people in this chapter. Reactive people complain and proactive people turn that complaint into opportunity. We all should have a personal vision. We can call it a mission of life. For this reason, we can think about our funeral day when people will come to see me and tell how I was as a father, husband, son, or in the office, etc. If we can think about that day our vision will be clear I think.

Habit Two - Begin with the End in Mind. I think after watching the name of the habit it is self-explanatory to everyone. If we can fix our mission statement we can realize the end state of every wish we expected to be. Here we can write down precisely about our mission statement so that we can find out what we need to do. We will have different roles in our life. We need to perform as a father, husband, son, office employee, leader, boss, etc. In each and every role we will have some work to do. So to identify the works in different roles are our job in this habit.

Habit Three - Put First Thing First. We need to understand the priority of works. Many of us are always running short of time. Sometimes we give more priority to the things we see at our front. But there is some work which will have long term effects, we often forget about that e.g. Physical Exercise. In this chapter, S.R Covey gave an idea about the four-quadrant method. Here he sorted out the different works of our life very nicely in four-quadrant. Here he shows that the works which are not urgent that is the most important in our life like relationship building, Planning, Skill development, etc.

Habit Four - Think Win-Win. Previous three habits are personal in nature. That means if we can grab those habits it will be a private victory. But from now these habits are public victory. We need to apply these habits when dealing with other people. Here the writer has talked about four types of situations during any sort of relationship or agreement. Among those the best is a win-win situation. For example, there are two writers where both of them have a good number of readers. Now if they share each other ideas in their books that time one's reader will also attract another writer which will increase the sale of books. So this is a win-win situation.

Habit Five - Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. Many of the time we listen to reply back but not to understand the fact. Here the writer has focused on empathetic communication with others. Empathetic communication means we listen with understanding. It is a matter of practice and in this book, there are some ways described very nicely. So we need to think from the point of speakers' view and then take the decision keeping in mind about the win-win situation.

Habit Six - Synergize. Synergize is everywhere. The way a man and a woman bring a child in this world that's synergy. So when we can practice effectively that is the time we will achieve synergy. For example, I want to take a mango from a tree but I am not able to take that because of my height. There is another person who also wants to take the mango but his height also does not support him. But if he takes me on his shoulder then I can take the mango and we can share between ourselves. This is synergy. On the other hand if I or he had thought that as I am not able to take the mango I will not also support him to take that mango. So we need to always look for a synergic opportunity. The more we can make synergy we will have more success.

Habit Seven - Sharpen the Saw. This is the habit that surrounds other habits. We need to practice effectively all the habits. We should ask ourselves how can we excel in every role of my life. If a knife is not sharpened after using it many times the way it will not work we are also the same. So we should always sharpen our physical, social, mental, and spiritual dimensions. We may think that sharpening may take more time but after sharpening we can use it for a long time.

This is all about the seven habits which are nicely described with exercise in this book. I think buying this book is a great investment in life. The language is very subtle and understandable. If you like to buy that book you can click here. I wish everyone a happy life journey.
