One of the most attractive native small trees here is Texas Mountain
Laurel, Sophora secundiflora. It is a nice small tree or large shrub
with clusters of blue pea-like flowers that, like Peltophorum spp, are
scented like grape Kool-Aid. (Anyone know what the compound(s) are
that give this scent?)
This tree is best-adapted in areas with dry summers, especially
desert areas, though it does well in Mediterranean climates if given
enough heat. It is probably worthless in warm, humid areas (sorry
SoFla...), though I can say I haven't actually tried it there.
Anyway, seed is very plentiful now. If anyone wants any, let me know
in the next few days and I'll collect some for you.

I'd figure Darwin's too warm and wet, though I'm not really familiar
with Darwin's climate. You are tropical, no?
I'm planning on staying in SoFla, just looking for a cheaper place to
live for now. Wouldn't mind moving to Oz some day from what I hear
about the place or at least visiting before I croak...
