Ann, those are gorgeous. Don't know why my A formosana has droopy
flowers - maybe too dry. Nothing like yours! I lost most of my H
wagnerianas after the drought but I still have one from a rhizome
that I managed to miss when transplanting.

Gorgeous flowers, Ann. Is the first one a brownea? My curcuma is
starting to come up now, not in flowering stage like yours. Aren't
they gorgeous though? They are definitely one of my favourites :).

Also, thanks for posting pic of Alpinia formosana. Mine has not
flowered yet, so I never know what the flowers are like. I bought it
because of the foliage. BTW, how much sun can they handle. They are in
400mm pot at the moment under 50% shade cloth.

Regards, Ari :)

Thank You Ladies,
It is a Brownea, first time flowering this year.
I find Wag a bit picky about drainage with a sort of sloppy habit, but
the flowers make them worth planting.
Formosana is my favorite of the varigated gingers. So much more subtle
than the others. I have this in about 75% sun but sheltered by
torches.
I love Cape York Lilys too. They herald the arrival of summer. Ann

Ann, Your picture with erect inflorescences makes me think I may have
a different species but the flowers look superficially similar. Mine
is losing its thin white stripes at least this time of year. It grows
in full sun and probably not enough water perodically in the hot
season. I will take a leaf to show to the ginger expert, Tom Wood, who
is usually at the Ramble next weekend. But he told me he would be
traveling so don't know if he is back yet.

I don't know there are different species of variegated alpinia. It
would not surprise me though. Mine definitely doesn't loose the thin
stripes though. It has not flowered yet, so I can't confirm.

Regards, Ari :)

Let me know how it goes. I'd love to know if there were a couple of
pinstripes out there. Ann

Just adding a photo of the wagneriana fully outed. It has an unusual
shape. Ann
