Eric,

I'm happy to kick off the proceedings but I don't have time to sign up to do a full presentation at this meetup.

One idea is to send email to the WebGL developer list, webgl-d...@googlegroups.com (you'll have to join if you're not on there), asking for potential speakers.

And another idea is to post a message to the SF WebGL meetup.

Tony

Hi Mo,

Thank you for your great effort!

Hi Tony, Mo,

Can you please speak or suggest some one to be speaker in the WebGL meetup on Nov 12? At the same time, I will also contact some WebGL experts to see if they can be speaker in this meetup.

Thanks,
Eric Wang

Got it.

Well let me know if you guys think of any speakers that might be interesting/interested.

So far I have Fuel3D and MatterAndForm but we could use another three or four more people.

Any of you guys down for being a speaker?

Hi,

I just received confirmation that Google is able to host this meetup at Nov 12 7pm-9pm.  Buffet style dinner and drinks will be provided at 6:30pm.

The exact location is Google Campus Building 43, second floor, Room Tunis Tech Talk.  Exact room may change, but that should be minor details.

Folks,

I just submitted an event request at Google, targeting Nov 12 7pm-9pm.  Let's wait and see what Google says.

Thanks Ken for the tips on how to do this.

OK, I've got the Fueld3D guys interested in coming.

They are asking about dates.

I think, at the very least, we can get them to do a scan of everybody's face that wants it.

I have attached a scan they did of me using the device. (I also have an .obj file with colors).

Anyway, what they do is pretty cool.

Please let me know when we have a date so i can confirm with them.

What about running with Silicon-Valley-WebGL-Meetup and see how it goes?

I expect we are able to attract a healthy number of people in the south bay.  If not, then we can discuss about what we can do.

Shannon,

Thank you for setting up the meetup.  Just joined.

Eric,

Let me ping around and get back to you about hosting the first one at Google.

Cheers,
Mo

HTML5 is an EXTREMELY broad topic, while WebGL is very narrow. I feel it's better to speak to the more targeted audience. Not only that, but the point has been made multiple times that WebGL is not, in fact, part of the HTML5 spec. It's a Khronos spec that takes advantage of the HTML5 canvas element. Subtle distinction that almost nobody cares about, but it's there nonetheless. Give that, I would lean more towards dropping the "HTML5" portion of the title. Not really all that opinionated about it either way, though.

Hi Tony, Shannon,

I think Tony is right. It better to focus on WebGL. Another reason is that there is already a few HTML5 meetup groups. A clear focus in WebGL will help our group to get support from the industry.

Thanks,
Eric Wang

You are the master of meetups.  I disagree, but will make the change anyway.

As I stated in my reasons I, as an expert HTML5 developer, am the perfect candidate for switching over to and learning WebGL.
It was a long road for me to realize this and I am hoping to open people's eyes.

I will add you as co-organizer and you can make changes as you see fit.

ps - I have secured a 3D scanner from Matter and Form to demonstrate at the event!

What do you think about calling the group "Silicon Valley HTML5 WebGL Meetup" ?

I think we would get a lot of additional traction by putting the word HTML5 in the title.
I am an expert in HTML5 and am only now realizing that I need to further develop my WebGL skills.
I was a very early adopter of HTML5 - and in fact wrote the "HTML5 Showcase" for Apple, Inc. - something like four years ago now.
Thinking that if we associate the words it will draw more people in to see the light.

So far I have put in pings to Fuel3D - makers of a 3D camera and Matterform, makers of a 3D scanner so see if they are interested in exhibiting.
