Dear All:

I am having wonderful success with FirefoxDriver.

I was wondering whether it might be possible to use
InternetExplorerDriver with ies4linux or another Internet Explorer
alternative running on Linux?

It seems to be overkill to run an entire virtual machine just for this
purpose. Any alternatives?

I am on Ubuntu Hardy Heron amd64.

Thank you! Please reply all.

Sincerely yours
Misha Koshelev

p.s. Are there options such as IE path that are available for IEDriver
like there are for FirefoxDriver? Thank you!

I can't see this working at all - the IEDriver uses *very*
(Windows-)specific techniques which I can't see porting over at all
nicely to Linux. There is no path option, because on Windows it is
not relevant, due to how IE operates...

You probably want to look in to Wine.

Hi,

There are two ways to use the IE driver - one is via the RemoteWebDriver and one is in-process. Using the RemoteWebDriver is the easy way - even if it includes setting up a virtual machine. As Daniel stated, the IE Driver implementation is tied to a Windows environment. Technically, you may be able to find a way to load the DLL and interact with it from a Linux process or run your entire test process in Java using Wine - it may work, but very difficult to debug if not.
