This is really strange. I was wondering if I should join this group,
for there did not seem to be any other way to say thanks to David on
the Webdevout site, when suddenly google was promoting me to sign in
to join the group. Guess I must have inadvertently clicked somewhere!
Anyway here I am and feeling really thankful and pleasantly bemused
with David's self-portrait and his thoughts about life in general. The
fact that there are only 16 people, discussion are not running on a
relentless conveyer belt, seems appealing and I sure have had my
headaches with the non-standards compliancy of web-browsers. Which
incidentally brings me to my reasons for saying a big Thank You David.
Faithfully noting down the conditional comments from MSDN and
certain elaborate hacks from other Sites, I never seemed to get it
right. Weird, each problem that solved, created two more in the same
browser and some additional ones in others (sometimes so weird, I did
not know if I should laugh or cry!). Anyway David had written
something in between the lines, which indicated a scenario from life
and experience, that the other folks either did not have or did not
consider it worth mentioning, assuming of course that all folks are
well versed in these things. It sure was a minor thing, but it did not
enter my mind! It simply did not! That hack in registry (zIe), with
which the browser is forced to seek the version. I am using a third
party multiple IE browser versions, beside the IE7 and did find it
strange that all versions of IE were showing IE7 version, when I
checked the browser versions, but to amend the entry in registry did
not enter my mind. And sure enough David, you have saved me hell of
time and head aches. I am of course mentioning this in detail, to let
you know, that such minor between-the-lines comments and additional
info can be equally worth a persons time as much as the major hacks!!
In this case, more than the latter!
Which is just another way of saying, I appreciate your sight, the
reasons for its existence and the motivation behind it. It sure
helped. Keep it up. A lot of success with your work and thanks again.
