Hi Gurus,

I know that we should discuss only best practices here, but I would like to ask for help to a very specific problem.

Well, I found this Bug 14064412 on oracle support,

Here, at my customer I have the same problemn, stuck threads in my Webcenter Custom Portal, at the same class.

The webcenter is 11.1.1.5.4. At metalink the bug are reported but without any solution.

The main problem is that there's some stuck threads at webcenter managed server and the application doesn't answer anymore.

I would like to know if some of you know something about this bug and can help me.

I can pass more information about my environment;

I'll appreciate any help, thank you

Hi Nelson,

We faced more or less same issue in integration of Content Presenter with Spaces. There is no permanent fix for this issue till PS5.

Following is the workaround given by Oracle Support and A-Team:-

================================================================================
1. The action item is to use coherence for the content presenter cache.

Please refer to the following two links for setup content presenter:
https://blogs.oracle.com/ATEAM_WEBCENTER/entry/enabling_coherence_for_content_presenter
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/webcenter.1111/e12405/wcadm_documents.htm#BABHFCJH

2. As for this Bug 13786178: STUCK THREADS CAUSED BY WCPS'S MAPCACHE...will request development to make fix in next patchset ( maybe 11.1.1.7, no scheduled date. or 11.1.1.6 in latest bundle patch)

3. JOC Patch 13087577 : GETOWNERSHIP PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS

NOTE: We have not seen the thread dump and this patch is purely based on assumption/ given information that there were caching issues.
================================================================================

It does not solve issue 100% but its mitigate the issue to great extend.Now, we see this issue rarely but whenever we see we restart server.

Regards,
Imran

Hello,
Recently we had problem with stuck threads during ADF application modules activation/passivation. It is another bug, but from customer point of view behavior was similar.
Stuck threads appeared during high load. In our case users could work with portal while there were <=8 stuck threads. After 10th thread portal hanged completely.
This problem occurs much more rarely after upgrade to 11.1.1.6 pb4
While you are searching for solution you can do the following:
  1. Set up job, that will restart Custom Portal managed server during night.
  2. Set up WLS managed server to restart automatically when >= 4 stuck threads appears. Restart with "force shutdown"  and "ignore sessions" options.
Regards,
Boris

Hi Nelson,

We came across a similar issue when we started load testing a WebCenter Portal application.

For us it happened at multiple different points.

1) Due to not load balancing multiple UCM's.
2) Internal Firewall (deep packet inspection time out) issue. (Probably not relevant but thought it might be worth mentioning)
3) Pages Hierarchy Structure. We ended up having to split the pages Hierarchy into files that contained no more then 10 nodes each. (A really pain, but it worked --- This was an Oracle recommendation)

Hope that helps,

Aaron

Ok the thread stuck time behaves differently for jdk and jrocket. You might need to increase the value to much higher than the default in jrocket.

Hi Mirza,

I saw in ATEAM blog that I can put the content-coherence-cache-config.xml in a JAR, without inside my application.

If I do this, I don't need a new application deployment.

It's just create a jar with this file and put in DOMAIN_HOME/lib, did you do this?

Hi Nelson,

As we were using Spaces therefore we used following technique:-

http://spiderwebcenter.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/configuring-coherence-for-spaces.html

Hi Mirza, I did this steps, but when I go to jconsole <customPortal_managedServer> mbeans tab, I can't see the Coherence option.

Did you see this option in MBeans tab?

Could you open this issue in Oracle Webcenter forum? We will discuss there.

Answer of question-1:
For WebCenter Portal: Spaces this file is stored in the ORACLE_HOME/user_projects/applications/wc_domain/custom.webcenter.spaces.fwk/APP-INF/classes/ directory. For WebCenter Portal applications, developers must create the content-coherence-cache-config.xml file in the application (EAR) classpath or server's system classpath.

Answer of question-2
Yes, patch is available for STUCK THREADS CAUSED BY WCPS'S MAPCACHE.

Regards,
Imran
