Any ideas to create a more usable virtual webcam driver? Here is the
thread for this!

Even if vloopback and v4l2loopback are working solutions, it would be
easier the create a module that would work over the network,
independent from webcamstudio itself.

Let's say that a service running on a PC would be able to accept
images from the network (or locally) via UDP/TCP instead of using the
IOCTL/File system that is actually used.

That new "driver" would let more project interact with the virtual
output and there would be not need for native calls to the system.

Waiting for your comments...

What would be really interesting is having a virtual device that would
be feeded by the gstreamer framework. I know that there is already
the v4l2sink. I've tried to make it work with v4l2loopback device but
with no success. If we were able to create a virtual device that
would be compatible with the v4l2sink of GStreamer, then imagine all
the possibilities, not only for webcamstudio, but for a bunch of
projects using GStreamer.

Thinking completely out of the box have you considered
using:

I've quite some experience using this platform on Mandriva
and it's quite useful. It's a little tough on using USB ports
but a virtualized OS can talk to the systems USB ports.
