Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade my kiosks from Webconverger 12.3 to 18.

I am using an Acer Revo 3700 which has and Nvidia ION chipset. I am booting from usb stick.

The old 12.3 image works fine but when I flash the new 18 image, it hangs while booting at the point where there is a yellow progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

Is there a way to see what is causing the hang - maybe a more detailed boot screen?

Any other ideas?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hey there Tom,

Truthfully, I was aware I broke nvidia support since then and I've
actually just recently fixed it (at least on my nvidia test machine)
in the new Webconverger 19 release.

Could you please give it a try and let me know if it fixes it?

If it doesn't you need to go into http://webconverger.org/debug/ mode.
Login as root and do something like

cat /var/log/X* | p

And tell me the resulting URL. :)

Kind regards,

Hello Kai,

That was a very well timed relase! I've just tried the new image and it is working fine. I'll go ahead and update the other kiosks now.

I should send you a photo of them some time - they look pretty smart in our foyer!

Best regards,

Tom

Please do share the photos Tom. Could do with some fresh contributed
content on http://www.webconverger.com/

Btw do you use WebGL? Wonder if I'm not prioritising very well by
spending time with their proprietary drivers. ;)
http://zenphoton.com/ is a good little WebGL time waster I found today.

Our kiosks are mainly used as an information point for visitors and so they can check their email etc. I don't think WebGL is something they would get a huge benefit from although all extra features are nice to have!

Have you ever thought about porting Webconverger to Raspberry Pi? That would be a huge deal for us!

Thanks,

Tom

I have spent several hours with the Model B rev 2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi and it is far too slow.

Once it gets 1G of RAM and a better processor, I will look into it
again. Tbh we probably would need to switch to the blink engine and
http://surf.suckless.org/ and lose a lot of the convenience Firefox
gives us.

Do please share the pictures. Perhaps tag them 'webconverger' on
Flickr if you have an account?
