Hi,

I'm trying out webby and am excited to try it out, but I'm having a
problem installing it in Windows 7. I've installed the latest Ruby
package, the DevKit, and the webby gem, but I am getting this error
when trying to execute webby:

Ah, I don't think that's a windows problem so much as a Ruby version problem. The 'official' version of webby is not ready for Ruby 1.9.

Robert Wahler has done some work on making a 1.9 compatible version of webby. You'll need both of these:

http://github.com/robertwahler/webby
http://github.com/robertwahler/directory_watcher

Alternatively, have a look at nanoc3 which shares many of the same ideas as webby.

Thanks a lot for your response! I've tried out nanoc3, but I think webby is what looks most comfortable. I'm kind of new to this, and I don't know how to compile the files, but I'll certainly try! :)

Thanks a lot! I plan to stay if I can get it working... Is there an easy way to get files from the links you sent me, cause it seems I have to compile them from source. I hope I'm understanding it wrong and there's an easy way..is there?

Hmm, there must be a way to install from github source, but i don't know how. Robert's fork doesn't seem to be on rubygems.org either, otherwise it would be easy.

I don't think there's any compiling necessary, so in theory you should be able to simply replace the files in

C:/Ruby192/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/webby-0.9.4

and the equivalent for directory_watcher

I'm sure that's a Very Bad Thing to do ... but it will get you going for now. Dear mailing list, how else would you install an alternative fork of a gem?

Ah, if only saving someone's life were really as simple as copying a few files across ... maybe one day, hey! ;)

You're welcome.
