This paper presents the open-source WImpiBLAST web interface for mpiBLAST and discusses in detail the design decisions taken during its development, its robust architecture and use cases. The user-friendly WImpiBLAST interface will facilitate and encourage the use of supercomputing resources by biologists. This research will have a direct impact on the rate of knowledge discovery by accelerating various large-scale annotation projects.
We strongly feel that the institutes having in-house HPC facility can port this WImpiBLAST software on their Cluster so that biologist/other researchers can have user-friendly access to supercomputing resource to submit annotation jobs and accelerate transcriptome, genome and metagenome annotation tasks.
The architecture adopted in this project (codebase) can also be used as a template for porting any scientific computing application.
