Out of the Box: Building and Using Web Archive Collections
International Internet Preservation Consortium, General Assembly
The National Library of the Netherlands, The Hague
May 9, 2010

Call for participation: The International Internet Preservation
Consortium (IIPC) is holding a day-long public event May 9, 2011 at
the KB, the National Library of the Netherlands, in The Hague. “Out of
the Box: Building and Using Web Archive Collections” will be an
opportunity for curators and creators of web archives to show off the
contents of their collections through stories, illustrations and
demonstrations and discuss their collection policies. Researchers and
users of web archives will be able to present and discuss their needs
and expectations when approaching a collection of archival web
sites.

Curators of web archives are invited to participate in either of the
two sessions below:

1) Collection Treasures (presentations of approximately 20 minutes
each): describe and demonstrate with concrete examples the rich
contents of web archives. Highlight how web archives complement and
provide continuity to other traditional library and archives
collections. Organizations interested in participating should submit a
short paragraph describing the collections they would highlight to
ab...@loc.gov by February 15, 2011. A final program will be announced
March 15, 2011.

2) Web Archiving short stories (5 minutes for each talk): Share
anecdotes, experiences, and stories about web archives and how they
are collected. The goal is to show diversity and value in collections
through short concrete examples and stories. Organizations who are
interested in participating should email their topic ideas to
ab...@loc.gov by February 15, 2011. No slides are necessary but they
can be used to illustrate examples or show graphics.

Users and researchers are invited to participate in the following
session:

1) Using Web Archives (approximately 15 minutes each): Researchers and
users of web archives will showcase their projects, initiatives and
work. It will be an opportunity to learn the methods researchers use
to answer questions in web archives but also to discuss their vision
and needs for the future.

Researchers and curators will join in a panel discussion at the end of
the day to discuss how web archives can be designed to better serve
researchers.

Attendance of this one-day event is open to all, with no registration
costs. Registration will be opened as soon as possible and will be

Hallo,

researcher engagement with web archives. Dit is beschikbaar op
ssrn.com/abstract=1714997

Met vriendelijke groet, René Voorburg
