In other words, learn git and then you can effortlessly move between any version you want. The time spent learning this is a huge payoff. mercurial is probably just as good, I can't speak for it.
the last chapter of the book has some pointers.

+1 for git but one doesn't need knowledge just to download versions.
github serves out 29 releases up until 2.0.2 (2 years ago) and google code to 1.77.1 (whoa, 4 years ago)
NB: those are "tagged" releases, meaning that at some point in time were released. There are a few releases that lived shortly because of some bugs (corrected in a later release): this means effectively that you'll need to read the CHANGELOG (if you haven't done already) to realize that the smart move is ALWAYS choose the latest release :-P
