requirements but it is the same book.

Massimo,

I just ordered the book also. Thank you for making this much more
affordable. Are you going to link this eBook on the web site? I hope
you do so more people will purchase it and assist in growing the
community.

If you type web2py in the search box it doesn't find it, maybe you
should let lulu know that :)

can you enable paperback order for Lulu, or would that conflict with
you Wiley agreement?
I'm just curious - I will purchase the download version anyway.

Works fine for me. Seems like a problem on your side. Try another

It would be interesting to know (let's say after a month) the ratio of
pdf-s sold compared to the number of paper books sold. Just out of
curiosity, I hope a ratio does not count as top secret business data.

It is not easy to compute. For example, right now I can tell you lulu
sold in 24 hours 1/4 of total "reported" sales since publishing
(Sept). The problem is that lulu is updated in real time. How and when
the publisher web site is updated is a mystery. I do not know what is
included. I suspect for example amazon sales are not included.

Thanks for providing the PDF book to such a nice price. However I'm
missing a content navigation panel. I guess it's not due to my readers
as I have tried a couple. Will you add that in a future revision?

I have the printed book but I travel a lot and find PDFs are useful,
so I just bought the book in PDF form as well.

It would be very cool if someone could spend a little while and make
an index for the PDF version and trim the printers marks from the
pages. Not that I'm complaining ;-) but it just makes the book easier
to access in PDF form.

mdipierro

The book should have an index and a table of content. Are you saying
the index is not there?

Massimo

For an index I guess Joe means a hyperlinked index / table of contents
where you can click on an entry to go to the page. This would need to
be generated by re-PDFing the original document I guess.

I made the document easier to view in the small window of my eee pc by
using printing the PDF I downloaded to a PDF document with page size
set to A5, centering 'on' and fit to page 'off'. I then printed that
document to PDF again with 2-pages-to-a-sheet set. The correspondence
between the printed page number and the PDF page number is messed up
but it works well to view the document. Massimo, I can e-mail this to
you if you think it's useful.

I know that LaTeX can do the linking in a table of content automatically.
Perhaps the publishing system used for Massimo's book can do it also,
then it would just be a matter of flipping a switch.

Great! Thanks, Massimo.

I just got it. I am from Panama. I had some problems using PayPal, but
then I switched to use my credit card directly with Lulu.com (I trust
them, since I have bought from them before), and everything went OK.

I just transferred your PDF to my Sony PRS-505 eBook reader, and it
works like a charm. It is well formatted and I can now read your book
wherever I go (me, the eternal geek ;-).

I will also order the printed book from Amazon. Even if I don't get to
use it (I am sure I will), I consider it a collectible.

Again... Thanks a lot for giving your knowledge, dedication and
wisdom, for free. Your framework is a masterpiece of design, not only
in the software area of knowledge, but in ergonomy. It is, simply put,
"made for human beings".

I just bought it as well.
I am new to python and of course very new to web2py (I have already
gone through the examples however, and everything worked flawlessly).

Is web2py open source? I already am very inspired by Massimo's
generosity, but if Massimo were to be abducted by Martians to have
web2py working over there in Mars, will there be a pool of developers
able to support this framework here on Earth?

mdipierro

As much as I would like to be abducted by martians it is more likely I
will be abducted by my relatives over Christmas.

Anyway, web2py is GPLv2 and as you can see in the thank you page, a
lot of people have contributed heavily to it.
I can think of at least 30 people who proved to be very skilled in the
inner workings of web2py. I am sure there is more.

Actually that would be pretty cool as it would give us a good chance
that martian sites would soon be convert to web2py :) To stay on
topic, you could add the Lulu link to the resources section so people
have something to chew on while you return from Mars... err,

... just to avoid confusion, I know it's present on the first page,
but it's easy to miss especially if you start to consider buying a
book after going through some pages or landing on a page other than

It's great that there is a PDF version available now.

Is the PDF limited in any way like the VitalSource version is? I have
really don't like the VitalSource software and want to ditch it
completely. For me, it is a frustrating piece of software, so even if
the PDF is limited in the same ways (only two machine install is the
one that gets me), Adobe Reader will still be a better host
application than VitalSource Bookshelf.

That said, the material in the book is worth every penny. You'll be
happy to purchase it after an hour or so of use.

For all those curious about Joel's sig, but too cautious to run it and not enough time to figure it out, it's his email address.

Since this is a Python community, the equivalent is:

print ''.join([chr(ord(x)-1) for x in 'kpfmAdpoofdufevq/dp/vl'])
