Hi,

We've had multiple of our customer's phone in today regarding using the Google.co.uk search engine.  It randomly picks certain users to verify they're not a robot when attempting a google search.  No matter how many times they complete the captcha it never seems to go through.

Rebooting the Diladele proxy appliance seems to ease it for an hour or so.  If I unset the proxy settings in their internet options it works fine so it would appear to be proxy related.  Due to the random nature of the problem and not being on-site, I'm struggling to find an audit trail in logs etc.

Any ideas or any other reports of this issue?  I thought of adding .google.co.uk to the SSL/Squid bypass section but we'll lose safe search enforcement which is a big no-no!.

Thanks,

Chris Teesdale

Hello Chris,

The captcha is shown by Google when there are a lot of requests coming from one IP.

Reboot may change the IP assigned to the proxy – if you could verify this is really so?

Not knowing how the browsers go out to the internet without a proxy – I cannot comment on this.

If it is usual way of NATting then the public IP will be the IP of the firewall – and again it is not clear why the captcha is not shown in that case
