Happy birthday, World English Bible British Edition!
Rejoice, my non-American, English-speaking friends (and Americans
with non-American friends)! The World English Bible British Edition
is now online at all of:
http://eBible.org/be/
http://eBible.org/webbe/
http://WorldEnglishBible.org/be/
http://www.WorldEnglishBible.org/eng-webbe/
(and some similar-looking variants)
or just go to eBible.org and select the World English Bible British
Edition link.
The World English Bible British Edition, like the World English
Bible, is in the Public Domain. That means that you may copy it
freely, share it, proclaim it, preach it, record it, broadcast it,
publish it, convert it to other formats to read and use in Bible
study programs, give it away for free, sell it, include any or all
of it in books you write, etc., without royalties or restrictions.
Because the World English Bible was translated from the beginning
with a goal of avoiding locally-unique words or phrases, the
differences between the World English Bible and World English Bible
British Edition are very minor, restricted to spelling only.
Although these spelling differences are minor, and normally not a
barrier to understanding, they can be a distraction when you are
used to one spelling system and see spellings done the other way. A
list of the spellings that are different is at
http://eBible.org/webbe/phrasetranslist.txt if you are curious.
Although some Bible translation agencies copyright their work as a
means to "protect" the integrity of the work, we have taken a
different approach.
- God watches over His Word. Any protection by people or
corporations is insignificant compared to this.
- "World English Bible" is a trademark that may only be used to
describe the unmodified text of the World English Bible as
published at eBible.org and WorldEnglishBible.org. If you or
anyone else makes a derivative work from it, i. e. by changing
any of the wording or punctuation for whatever reason, it may no
longer legally be called the World English Bible. (There are
several such derivative works, but they have been renamed to
avoid confusion.)
- Distributions of the World English Bible British Edition (and
the other 2 official editions) are digitally signed so that any
changes will cause a signature check to fail. This is sort of a
tamper-evident seal.
The HTML, USFM, and USFX file formats of all three editions of the
World English Bible are now kept synchronized with the latest edits
to the master copy. The current primary focus of these edits are
language updates in Numbers, Isaiah, and Jeremiah.
May God bless the reading of His Word.
