thanks
I have been using them since 2001 and have had almost NO problems
whatsoever. They have very personal service and when you ask for help,
a real person always deals with you, it's never automated!
They offer very affordable plans for about $7 a month you get a free
domain registration, the option of adding 3 additional fully hosted
domains for no extra fee, 15 subdomains, 2.4 GB disk space for files,
120 GB Transfer (bandwidth for traffic), 600 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP
Users, Free scripts like guestbooks, forms, WordPress Blog, OSCommerce,
etc. You just go to your control panel and click one button to have
them install it and it is ready in minutes! I just installed
OSCommerce which is very popular e-commerce software which I'm using to
build an online store for a client.
You can even order a large plan and resell it to your customers. I'm
only paying $79/month for a secured plan that has a security
certificate (https://), unique IP, capability to fully host 31 domains,
6 GB disk space, unlimited mySQL databases, 700 FTP user accounts, and
more. I register my clients domains and their hosting through my
service and charge them what I feel is fair. This way I also have
total control over each clients backend. You can also grant each user
access to their own private account area, separate from your other
account plan control panels.
I've only experienced 1 actual down time in 4 years of using them.
I had upgraded my plan once and realized I upgraded to a plan that was
more that I needed and possibly too expenseive and I wrote to them
asking for their advice on the matter and they made sure I got the
upgrade I wanted without wasting my money because they care. Most
other hosting companies give you what you register for you and you are
stuck with it or you have to add small things one at a time for the
cost of an arm or a leg, like say 5MB additional filespace for $20!
Ridiculous.
Dreamhost also is very understanding of the people running small
businesses. When I lost my father to illness and was out of work and
trying to get my business off the ground they extended my payment due
date 2 months out. Of course I have always been a good customer but I
feel they give the benefit of the doubt to everyone when things happen!
I feel like when I deal with them I'm dealing with family. I host all
my domains and clients' domains there. I would not trust anyone else
to!
There are not enough good words to say about this company and I would
recommend it to anyone! I do not work for them I'm just a very
satisfied customer. Check them out here:

Good luck!
In order to avoid this...try to do some extensive background research
about the web hosting company. You can find so many web sites on the
internet that give reviews and feedbacks about the different web
hosting companies.
Also, check references or ask for references from message boards or
from webmasters before you sign up to a particular hosting firm. And
remember to make a back up copy of your web pages.

A good host isn't hard to find, it's just hard to tell the difference
between the good hosts and the ones who appear to be. You can always
ask web site owners/designers who they use and if they like them.
Fastcompany.com has a list of hosting companies you can view their
business profiles
http://fastcompany.directorym.com/DM/?DirectoryId=1989
www.epinion.com is another good place to check to read what consumers
and webmasters/designers think about hosting companies.
Hope these are helpful :)
