"Thanks for sharing Kiley's article about language barriers in
research. We had a talk about that at one of our recent staff
meetings after I interviewed the IPCC chair about the
increasing scientific contribution from Global South
Countries.
The one big thing that bugs me in these discussions is that
one key fact seems to go under, and that is that we ALREADY
know all that we need to know about solving the world's
polycriss. We do NOT actually need more research right now, we
need action based on what we already know.
Of course we need to keep broadening our approach, but lack
of different languages in research is not the biggest of our
problems, and that should be pointed out up front in any
discussion like this, IMO.
Anyway, this isn't meant as a criticism of Kiley's story or
anything, just food for thought. We need to focus more!"
