May 2026 Monthly Climate Summary
It
was a pretty normal
May across Colorado,
which might have
felt unusual after all
the record-breaking
warmth in recent
months. Even with
near-average
temperatures in May,
climatological spring
was the warmest on
record for Colorado.
Some areas had
beneficial rainfall
(or snowfall!) in May,
but drought persisted
across most of the
state, with extremely
low flows on many
rivers and a
fast-growing wildfire
in southeastern
Colorado. Severe
thunderstorm season
ramped up, with large
hail reported on the
eastern Plains. Water
Year 2026 thus far
remains the warmest on
record by a large
margin.
