Good morning! When a court struck down Berkeley, California’s pioneering gas ban in 2023, it was a big blow to local governments looking to decarbonize. But three years later, it seems that decision was the exception, not the rule: Judge after judge is siding with building electrification policies in similar lawsuits across the U.S., Alison F. Takemura reports.

Back in California, Jeff St. John breaks down a new bill that would help networks of customer-owned grid resources reduce the need for expensive, fossil-fueled peaker plants.

Shifting venues, Silicon Valley-based battery startup EnerVenue has raised $300 million and is building a factory in China after plans for a Kentucky plant fell through. Julian Spector’s got the details.

Wait! There’s more: Canary Media is currently celebrating our fifth birthday — and we’d be incredibly grateful if you helped us keep bringing readers free clean energy journalism in the years to come with a donation
