Good morning! Vehicle-to-grid technology may finally be headed for the mainstream, thanks in part to a new pilot rolling out in California. The program aims to establish rules for permitting and inspecting bidirectional charging installations, which let owners and the grid use EV batteries as a backup power source, Jeff St. John reports.

Would you join a bidirectional charging pilot if it were available in your area? Reply to this email to let us know!

Elizabeth Ouzts meanwhile reports on the latest energy legislation advancing in North Carolina, which would prop up Duke Energy’s coal plants until nuclear can come online in the far future. Republicans say it will lower residential electricity costs, but Democrats say it’ll just keep costly, dirty coal power running for decades.
